Student Goals:

Reading goal:S will be able to master Level 2 Comprehension of the Flynt and Cooter text
eitheraided or unaided by session #10.
Writing goal: S will be able to write three paragraphs each consisting of an introduction
sentence, three body sentences, and a concluding sentence by tutoring session #10.
Word study:S will be able to complete Words Their Way Spelling Inventory scoring an average
of 13/15 in the Syllables and Affixes stage by tutoring session #10.
Common Core Standards:
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.3.1
Ask and answer questions to demonstrate understanding of a text, referring explicitly to the text
as the basis for the answers.
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.3.3
Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique,
descriptive details, and clear event sequences.
Rationale:
Reading: Based on Ss reading comprehension assessment, we will focus on strengthening her
comprehension skills. S is able to read words that are at a much higher reading level than her
comprehension level. She comprehended successfully at a level one, but we had her read
passages up to level five.
Writing: Based on Ss writing assessment, it is evident that she enjoys putting her thoughts
down in written form. When prompted to write about something she is particularly interested in,
she can write a lot; however, she lacks the skills and knowledge to write proper paragraphs. We
would like her to be able to express her thoughts more clearly.
Word Study: Based on Ss spelling inventory assessment, we were able to figure out that she
struggled with syllables and affixes. We will work on various word sorts with her to help her
understand this stage.
Strategy for reading comprehension:
Roll- A- Story: S will roll a dice to fill out details of the story.
1- Title
2- setting
3- characters
4- problem
5- solution
6- theme.

We will also switch it up by asking these questions as well.

1- What was your favorite part of the story and why?
2- What is your favorite illustration and what does it show?
3- Pick 2 characters. Compare how they are alike and different
4- What is the setting of the book?
5- What happened at the end of the story?
6- Did you learn any lessons from the story?
S will write the answers to these questions in her journal. That way, she is discussing them and
writing them down to help her retain the information better.
We are doing this to determine if the during reading activity helps with her overall
comprehension of the story.
Readers extend their comprehension, reflect on their understanding, and value the reading
experience in this final stage. Often they create projects to apply what theyve learned and these
projects can take many froms (Tompkins, 2014 p.47).
