Honeybee Proposal
For our project, we have decided to research the declining bee population in the United
States and other parts of the world. Honey Bees are dying by the millions each year and we
would like to relate this phenomenon with the ultimate decline of agriculture and food
production, as we know it. When it comes to our food, Honey Bees are at the very foundation of
production. Pollination is the most integral part of food production and the basis for any plant
staying alive. It is our hope that we will be able to use a variety of angles to explain this dire
phenomenon. We will use lecture, power point presentation and video to showcase our project.
Our research is going to be primarily scholarly agricultural journals, news articles about
specific places that are already experiencing the consequences of the decline of the honeybee and
a video from TIME Magazine that explains why the honey bees are dying as rapidly as they are.
We plan on using the research database that the library offers and a few reference books that
have been specifically written about the decline of honeybees and what that means for modern
civilization. We also plan on using the internet and scanning news papers from across the globe
to analyze any current towns and cities that have already taken preventative measures in order to
keep their stock of honey bees up. We plan on doing most of the work together in the library.
From the library we can access all of the materials listed above.
We believe that the tactics listed above will be very fruitful for explaining our topic.
Because there is a lot of science behind the decline of honey bees and most of the reasons they

are in decline is because of the fall of the family farm, GMO and pesticide use and ignorance on
how to raise them properly. The best information we could find about these specific points
would be in scholarly journals and textbooks. The research database at the library has scholarly
journals in abundance.

Online research using the Internet will help us pick up a lot of

information from different towns and cities to see what they have to say about their personal
experience with the decline of the honeybee. Since we do not have all of the local papers from
all over the country stocked at the library, using the Internet would be the best way to find these.
We have also checked out a book from the library that looks at the decline of honeybees from all
angles. We believe that by reading this book we will become thoroughly knowledgeable about
the subject that we are presenting, especially when paired with all the other research we have
done. Finally, we hope to show a video that can explain in very simple terms why honeybees are
dying out. There are some confusing, very scientific principles that we may not be able to
accurately explain with power point and lecture alone. We believe that this topic is important,
simply because our entire way of life is very much dependent on honeybees. Without them there
will be massive food shortages and our planet will basically die.
We plan on splitting the work evenly. We plan on researching together in the library and
creating a plan on who will research and speak about certain components of the topic. We will
both read the book that was checked out from the library and will split the slides for the power
point to complete. We will present the project 50/50.
In our timeline we plan on finishing the rough draft by April 10 th that way we have time
to make any changes necessary. Our rough draft must be complete with a works cited page and
correct MLA format. Our plan for the week of 3/9 3/13 is research week, meaning we will
thoroughly read our sources for important information. The following week we will brainstorm

ideas on what to include in our presentation and how the layout will look. This may take longer
because its the most important step to finish; we have to make sure our ideas are voiced out over
the entire presentation in a neat manner. During this period we will gather ideas and take notes
on what to include that way when we start creating the presentation it will be easy and organized.
From 4/1 to 4/10 we plan on actually putting our ideas into an organized oral presentation and
also creating speaker notes for the presentation day. After the rough draft is complete we will
edit the entire presentation so that we are prepared for presentation day.
