CHANGING THE GAME FROM

UPROAR TO BROWN NOSE
Carol Ecker, Cynthia Cook & Morris Haimowitz

In a TA group of nine and ten

year olds Richard reported he had
failed every subject in schopl and
had brought home a poor conduct
letter almost every day.
Richard played UPROAR in the
group as well as in school. Through
role playing in the second group
session he was taught to give his
teacher three good strokes a day.
Richard's parents appeared at the
next group meeting very excited.
His conduct and work in school had

improved so greatly that his teacher

wrote a glowing letter to his
parents. Richard was very pleased
with all the good strokes he was
getting and he decided,
"This is the way I'm going to act
from now on". Six weeks later he
was still turning in his school work
promptly and "is a fine citizen in
Room 104". It should be noted
that stroking the teacher is a
teachable procedure.
