Buen Viaje (access available online), iPad, a binder for notebooks and assignments, index
cards 5x8, pen, pencil, colored pencils, a dry erase marker, and enough college ruled
paper to last you an entire year! Any additional materials will be upon teacher request.
Course Description
The objective of this Spanish I & II class will be to master basic communication, writing,
and reading skills in Spanish. We will practice speaking, reading, listening, and writing
activities in Spanish in order to gain a level of proficiency. We will complete a variety of
activities and projects that will help build the necessary skills required to effectively
communicate in a variety of real world contexts. In addition, we will be exploring and
making connections through various cultural aspects of many Spanish speaking countries.

Absences
I understand that things happen in life, but if you are absent for ANY reason, you,
and only you are responsible for making up any missed work. The amount of
days that you have been absent will be the amount of days you will have to make
it up.
For example, If you were absent for 2 days, you will have 2 days to make
up the work.
If you foresee any future absences, please allow me at least 2 days to gather your
assignments. If you are absent for longer than 3 days, please email me and I will
inform you on what you need to complete.
You will be permitted to complete quizzes, projects, writing tests, speaking tests
and unit comprehension exams if you were absent. However, you must make
arrangements with me and they can only be taken before or after school.
Tardies
As per school policy, if you are tardy to class, you will be assigned after school
detention.
Grading
A = 90-100%
B = 80-89%
C = 70-79%
D = 60-69%
F = 59% or below
Your grade and performance will be based on a variety of different assessments. You will
have projects, class discussions, presentations, quizzes, exams, homework, essays,
journal entries, research projects, and other assessments. Evaluated in some of these
assessments will be knowledge of content, effort, and participation. Please allow two
weeks for major projects or assignments to be posted on the secured district site. Keep all
of your work until you can see that it was entered correctly. If there is an error, please
send me an e-mail with the assignment name and description of error.
Class Rules/Expectations
NO food or drink (excluding water) in class (unless you have a doctors note).
Cell phones must be SILENT and out of sight. They will be confiscated according to
school policy unless you are asked to use them for educational purposes.
Come to class prepared! You are expected to have paper and a writing tool with you each
day!
Sit in YOUR assigned seat.
Please keep your hands to yourself.
Homework must be completed so that we may go over it in class.
Many days in class we will have activities that involve Spanish interaction, either writing
or speaking with a partner, using ONLY SPANISH. You must make an effort to speak
and practice Spanish in order to receive participation points.
If you need to use the bathroom, you must ask, puedo ir al bao, sign out, and take a
pass with you.
You must speak Spanish in class. No one has ever learned Spanish by speaking English.
Show respect. Treat everyone like you would like to be treated. This includes not taking
things to do not belong to you.
Honesty is one of the best characteristics one can have in my book. Please do not lie or
cheat. If you are suspected of academic dishonesty, you will be asked to re-take tests,
homework, or any other assignments. If there is evidence of cheating, all parties involved
will receive a zero.
Come to class with an open mind and a willingness to learn. Remember, your grade will
reflect your participation and understanding of Spanish.
If you do not follow these rules, any of the following may occur:
Informal conversation between student and teacher
Discussion with parent and teacher
Removal from class setting/ASD
Involvement of school administration
