Skills Development
Over the past four years, I have developed my skills in mathematics. With
each passing year, I have found more and more enjoyment with mathematics.
Particularly, I found that I excelled in probability, statistics and AP Calculus Class.
When solving complex problems, math became something that I wanted to do,
not that I had to do. Difficult problems proved to be more fun than they were
challenging. I have always found math relatively easy, but I have grown a true
love for mathematics during my time at MMSTC and in high school. For these
reasons, I am considering a career in actuarial science.
In addition to mathematics, I also found that writing was a strong suit of
mine. Specifically, I found that writing requiring research and logical arguments
was fairly easy and fun. Examples of pieces such as this exist in this section.
Mathematical writing, in particular, I excel at because it combines my two
strongest suits. With hard work, I am always proud of my work.
At MMSTC, each year every student was to complete a semester long
research project with a student of their choice. Together, we would create and
design an experiment that solved a problem in the real world and use our results
to help solve this problem. In addition to writing an essay, we were also expected
to conduct a formal presentation which sharpened our understanding of our
research as well as our public speaking skills. In the past, I found difficulty with
group projects but repeating this process has made me thrive in these scenarios.
Doing these projects helped me cooperate with others, write technically, and
speak publicly.
