LESSON PROCEDURE
ANTICIPATORY SET
Activity to focus student

activate prior knowledge,

STEP BY STEP
INSTRUCTION
Describe all teacher talk,
demonstration,
questioning, etc.

Have students come sit in front of


instruments. Instruct students to NOT
TOUCH the mallets/instruments!
Rhythm Cards- have students play the
rhythms on the mallet instruments!

1. Warm upsReview Mallet


InstrumentsReview the technique of
how to hold the mallets, sit in front of the
instruments and playing hands together,
alternating, and tremelo. Review how to
play the drums too!
2. Note Value Cards- Echo note value cards
and play on instrument (quarter note,
eighth note, half note, quarter rest, whole
note)
3. Vocal Warm Ups!Have students stand
up where they are. Begin vocal warm ups
(7 sassy sailors, M&Ms, doobie doe, etc.)
4. A Ram Sam Sam- Sing through the song
with the hand motions! After students
review the song, add the STOP AND GO
sign to the song. Students sing when the
sign is showing GO, and sing in their head
when I flip the sign to STOP! This allows
the students to audiate! End by singing
the song in a canon (without the stop/go
sign)
5. Mortimer!A. Ask a student to give a brief
summary of the story, Mortimer that
we read in the previous class.
B. Begin reading the book to the class.
C. On the up the stairs/down the
stairs parts of the book, have the
students start at the lowest/highest
point of the barred instruments and
alternate mallets going up/down
with 8 counts (state that Mortimers
house has only 8 steps!!!)
D. Shut the door! part belongs to the
drums!
E. Tremelo when the brothers and
sisters go up the stairs, AND when

the family is fighting at the end of
the book. Add a
crescendo/descrendo.
F. Mortimer fell asleep-glissando!
6. Line up!- Have students echo solfege
syllables back to me into the toy
microphonewhen they get it right, have
them quietly line up.
ASSESSMENT
How will you determine
that learner objective has
been met?

Students are playing the instruments along with


the book at the proper times and using proper
playing technique.
During the microphone echo activity, I am
assessing students individually by hearing them
each sing back to me before lining up.
