Learning Games Lesson Plan

Title of Lesson: Penguin Bingo

Date 2/5/15
Grade Level: kindergarten
Total Time:20 minutes

I. Objectives:
The children will further develop gross motor skills by waddling like a penguin
back to their seats.

The children will enhance their knowledge of vocabulary by searching for the
correct spelling of the bingo word on their own bingo cards.

The children will engage in social relationships by sharing chips for the game
Penguin Bingo.

movement in the penguin video.

II. Materials:

9 Penguin Bingo Cards


Cut out ice bingo chips
Papers with the bingo words
Youtube
Smartys

III. Procedure:
A. Motivation
1. I will enter the classroom with the YouTube video on the projector.
2. I will have a jar with a big penguin on it with all the words that are on
the bingo cards.
3. I will ask the children what they know about penguins

Steps
I will ask the children to come to the carpet by the color of their table.
I will ask the children what they know about penguins and where they live.
I will ask the children if they know how penguins walk.
I will have one child get up and demonstrate how penguins walk.

5. I will tell the children we are going to watch a YouTube video.


6. I will have the children sing and dance to the penguin song.
7. When the song ends I will have all the children practice walking like
penguins.
8. I will ask the children if any of them have ever played bingo
9. I will tell the children that today we are going to play penguin bingo
10. I will hand each of the 9 children a penguin bingo card.
11. I will explain to the children that the bingo we are playing is sight words.
12. I will explain that I will say a word and the children will have to find the
word on their bingo card.
13. I will go over all the words with the children before we start the game.
14. I will ask the children to return to their seats walking like a penguin by the
color of their table.
15. I will then hand out cut out pieces of ice to each table as bingo chips.
16. I will then start picking words out of a jar and saying them aloud while
walking around the tables to see which child has that word.
17. When a child has a bingo, I will have them yell penguin instead.
18. At the end of the game the winner will get a smarty candy.
19. If there is time we will play a second bingo game.
20. After the game is done I will have one child pick up all the cards and bring
them to the circle table.
21. I will have another child pick up the bingo chips and put them on the circle
table.
22. I will then have the children go to carpet by the color of their table.
IV. Conclusion:
The children will yell penguin when they have a bingo. The winner will get a
smarty candy.
V. Transition:
The children will return to their seats by walking like a penguin.
VI. Follow-Up Activities/Learning Centers:
1. I will leave the bingo cards in the play area.
2. Place a diagram of a penguin in the classroom.
3. Watch a video of live penguins.
VII. Evaluation/Assessment:
