Our
elections
are
closely
watched
by
a
host
of
external
individuals
and
organisations.
Many
are
opposed
to
our
union
and
to
trade
unionism
generally.
The
use
of
social
media
and
election
m aterial
that
belittles,
denigrates
and
is
focused
on
damaging
the
reputation
of
the
union,
m embers
or
officials
effectively
assists
those
outside
organisations
to
damage
the
MUAs
industrial
strength
in
this
country
and
internationally.
Some
social
media
commentary
on
non-authorised
MUA
sites
is
nothing
but
a
disgracefully
unrelenting
denigration
and
attack
by
a
handful
of
individuals
on
the
union.
This
behaviour
should
be
treated
with
contempt
by
genuine
unionists
that
debate
hard
issues
in
legitimate
open
union
forums.
Already
misinformation
distortion
and
outright
falsehoods
are
shaping
some
election
issues.
The
National
Office
is
not
moving
to
Western
Australia
if
Will
Tracey
is
elected.
It
will
always
remain
in
Sydney
for
national
and
international
networking
within
our
union
and
the
trade
union
movement.
Many
other
National
unions
have
national
officials
that
reside
in
other
states
but
who
operate
and
administer
their
union
from
Sydney.
Much
time
will
continue
to
be
spent
in
Sydney
by
all
National
officials
to
workshop
and
build
stronger
national
and
international
campaigns
for
all
our
members
wherever
they
work.
All
MUA
officials
are
expected
to
be
available
online
at
all
times
regardless
of
where
they
are
in
Australia,
and
if
necessary
in
the
world.
This
has
been
accepted
by
the
National
Council
and
our
membership
who
then
have
greater
access
to
those
officials.
The
days
of
being
holed
up
in
an
office
all
day
every
day
have
long
passed,
and
those
advocating
that
type
of
behaviour
by
union
officers
are
still
living
in
that
past.
It
is
the
same
reason
that
the
ITF
Global
President
can
be
an
Australian
whose
home
is
in
Australia
but
still
carries
out
his
global
role
on
behalf
of
the
MUA
and
ITF.
We
must
b e
clear
that
the
N ational
Secretary
of
the
MUA
will
also
reside
in
Sydney
due
to
the
enormous
financial,
administrative,
legal
and
industrial
responsibilities
that
position
requires
under
the
rules.
This
requirement
will
be
reinforced
by
me
and
the
United
National
Team
by
resolution
at
next
years
National
Conference.
This
union
is
facing
significant
challenges
from
global
capital
that
is
well
resourced
and
is
determined
to
smash
organised
labour
wherever
it
is.
We
are
a
small
union
and
we
need
strong,
stable,
intelligent,
united
energetic
and
visionary
leadership
to
fight
this
challenge
so
the
interests
of
our
membership
and
their
families
dont
go
backwards.
I
support
Warren
Smith,
Ian
Bray
and
Will
Tracey
to
work
with
me
as
the
unopposed
National
Secretary.
We
have
a
proven
experience
of
senior
leadership
within
our
union
and
industry
and
already
work
together
as
genuine
Comrades.
In
this
election
we
are
making
a
decision
about
the
future
of
this
great
Union.
I
encourage
every
member
who
is
a
believer
in
the
strength,
unity
and
conviction
of
this
union
to
do
the
same
thing
there
is
only
one
choice
for
the
leadership
at
this
time
and
that
is
the
United
National
Team
of
Will
Tracey,
Ian
Bray,
Warren
Smith
and
Paddy
Crumlin.
Say
NO
to
division
and
disunity.
Say
YES
to
proven experience together with young, intelligent and
energetic leadership.
