Part II: Reflection

CANDIDATE REFLECTIONS:
(Minimum of 3-4 sentences per question)

1. Briefly describe the field experience. What did you learn about technology facilitation and
leadership from completing this field experience?
In this field experience, I designed and conducted a technology workshop based on the needs of
my faculty at New Holland Knowledge Academy. The workshop was based on a needs assessment
that was conducted by interviews with the faculty at New Holland. Throughout the process of
planning and executing this workshop, I was able to experience what leadership and initiative
looks like as an Instructional Technology Specialist. I was able to use my knowledge of Google
Classrooms to guide other teachers to effectively use this product in the classroom. This field
experience gave me the opportunity to design and create both online video and printed materials
for the teachers to use during the workshop and use after the event as well. I was able to perform
the role of a leader in the school, and to my surprise, I was treated as a leader from the faculty as
well. The biggest take away for me from this experience is that the other faculty will listen to me
when I have something to teach them because they want to learn too so that they can use the tools
in their own classrooms.
2. How did this learning relate to the knowledge (what must you know), skills (what must you
be able to do) and dispositions (attitudes, beliefs, enthusiasm) required of a technology
facilitator or technology leader? (Refer to the standards you selected in Part I. Use the
language of the PSC standards in your answer and reflect on all 3knowledge, skills, and
dispositions.)
In this field experience, I learned that must know (Knowledge) the needs of my faculty. Instead of
conducting a Technology Workshop about anything, I need to find the needs of my faculty and
address those needs. If I do not address the needs of the teachers at my school, than whatever
workshop I perform will not be effective and the teachers will be less likely to use those skills
covered in the classroom. I learned that I must be able to (skills) to create effective learning
materials for my faculty or audience. After collaborating with my mentor and literacy coach, I was

able to develop both printed and online materials for my faculty to reference and learn from both
during my workshop and afterwards. I learned that my attitudes and beliefs (dispositions) should
be motivated in a way that is both as a leader and as a servant. I am, as an ITS, a tool and resource
for my faculty. I should approach the workshops and every interaction with my faculty as an
investigator and teacher. My job includes helping, motivating, and teaching the faculty at New
Holland. I have learned to research and bring back information for my teachers and troubleshoot
any problems that they may be having. This is my role as an ITS.
3. Describe how this field experience impacted school improvement, faculty development or
student learning at your school. How can the impact be assessed?
The Instructional Technology Plan for the Gainesville School System incorporate using up to date
technology for teaching and learning. By teaching the teachers to use technologies for Blended
Learning and Web 2.0 resources, I am giving my teachers the tools that they need to
enthusiastically teach the students and keep them motivated and engaged in the classroom. The
Google Classroom will also allow the teachers a digital and more effective way to communicate
with students and track student progress and work. This can be assessed by the post workshop
survey that was sent out after the workshop. This survey will indicate how effective the tools that
were presented are and how effective I was as a presenter of the information.
