TUSCALOOSA, Alabama Shelter pets should be your first place to go to when
looking for adoption and We are Shelter Pets campaign will tell you why you
The We are Shelter Pets campaign is here to change the way that many
people believe shelter animals behave. This campaign is set up to change the
perception that animals in shelters are unhealthy and misbehaved. In reality most
animals are healthy and behave, and were only given up because their owners could
no longer care for them. Some people believe that you must buy from a breeder to
ensure you have a good pet which is not the case. Shelter animals can be trained.

Over 8 million pets enter shelters and rescue groups every year, and 3

million healthy pets are euthanized due to low adoptions rates. Although adopting
an animal is a huge commitment, it can save an animals life and bring joy to the
family. Adopting a pet can be a great addition to a home. Also, when you adopt from
a shelter, you are guaranteed a low price.

The Humane Society of the United States is the nations largest protection

program, and they are sponsoring this campaign. The Humane Society fights for the

protection of all animals through advocacy, education and hands-on programs.

Buffys fund is sponsoring this campaign as well and was created to help promote a
no-kill nation where all healthy and treatable shelter dogs and cats are guaranteed a
loving home.
No healthy domesticated animal should die in a shelter. This collaborative
effort is working to change negative perceptions of shelter animals, said Rich
McGuinness, Buffys Fund president. Help Buffys fund by sponsoring this campaign
and adopting your next pet from a shelter.
