What could be better than celebrating LSUs progress toward becoming a smoke-free campus
with free food from Walk-Ons? We thank Tobacco-Free Kids for supporting Fresh Campus efforts, said
Derick Bercegeay, Fresh Campus/SmokingWords acting president.
Kick Butts Day is an annual event to help raise awareness of the effects of tobacco use and
secondhand smoke. In the past, Kick Butts Day has included a campus cleanup of all cigarette butts
strewn throughout campus. It continues to be a successful event for Fresh Campus/SmokingWords.
More About Fresh Campus and SmokingWords
Fresh Campus at LSU is one of 10 Fresh Campus organizations in the state of Louisiana. Fresh
Campus was started by Tobacco-Free Living in efforts to bring awareness to young people who are
affected by tobacco. It also supports the implementation of tobacco-free policies on college campuses.
SmokingWords was started after receiving a grant through the Board of Regents Health
Excellence and later partnered with Tobacco-Free Living to continue reaching its goal. It works in
accordance with Fresh Campus principles, and is an educational program at LSU that promotes tobaccofree lifestyles among college students.
