Global Issue/Challenge (Talia)

Describe the issue you are addressing in two sentences
Deforestation is responsible for 10% of all greenhouse gas emissions, and with fewer trees, less
oxygen is being produced. More carbon and less oxygen make for poor global air quality.
Evidence of Issue/Challenge (kiizh)
In a brief, well-written paragraph, explain how this is a problem and convince audience why it needs
to be solved. This needs to include specific and compelling evidence.
Large commercial food industries cause up to 50% of deforestation rates in Indonesia, one of the
main reasons is cattle ranching. Cattle ranching uses cut and burn, at the beginning of this
method the soil is rich in nutrients but after being over-grazed the soil cant sustain such a high
demand. Putting an end to cattle ranching would have a big ripple effect, combined with growing
new trees, the forets could start the process of growing back what has been lost.
Action plan (Wihinape)
Our plan is to get people locally aware about deforestation and help by planting plants and trees.
We will do this by having a competition and using the money to donate to an organization to help
replant trees in the Amazon.
Project Goals (David)
Describe what you hope to accomplish with this plan
1. spread awareness about deforestation
2. get people involved in helping

3. make a lasting plan/effort

4. find forest friendly alternatives

Resources (Wihinape)
What resources do you need to implement your plan? Describe what is necessary to take your plan
into action. This may include a few different kinds of support, including financial, human, material,
etc.
To put our plan into action, we need to advertise it and reach out to businesses and
communities within our city. Financially, we will need support with buying the plants and trees,
and broadcasting our plan to other people. We may need materials to publicize our plan. Also,
having other people in the long run to spread the plan.

Publicity (David)
How do you plan to share your project and its impact with the broader community and draw
attention to your work?
spread the word and have those people telling others.
teach people
get businesses involved (they have power to end it)
Sustainability (Kiizh)
How will you sustain your solution? Describe how your Knowledge to Action plan can continue, even
if your team does not continue to be involved.
To keep our solution as long as possible we would make sure our idea stays public and
Challenges (Christiana)
What are potential obstacles to your success? Outline any challenges that you may come across as
you put your plan into action. How do you plan to overcome these challenges?
Our potential obstacles are: not having enough money to buy plants, not having enough people
who want to be the plants, and not raising awareness about deforestation to the general public.
We plan to overcome these obstacles by having a fundraiser to buy trees and give them to
community gardens or to people who just want to plant a tree. By spreading awareness, we could
publish our website on deforestation and teach people about our mission through the media.
Evidence of Success/Evaluation (Talia)
Describe how you will know that your project has been successful. How will you know that you are
making an impact on the problem you seek to address? How will you collect the information needed
to tell whether you have been successful?
We will know that our project has been successful when we sell enough flowers and small plants
to donate money to the amazon to plant more trees. We will tally up how much money everyone
made to see if our goal has been reached.
