Human Sex Trafficking

Good evening delegates.

Human sex trafficking is involuntary servitude, such as being forced to do things, or
a form of slavery where women, children, or even men, are grabbed and forced into
doing sexual acts with other people. This form of trafficking violates peoples basic
human rights such as the right to be free, the right to be under equal protection
under the law, and the rights to life, security of person and freedom from torture.
Sex trafficking has been around for a while, though, there is still no consensus to
the situation. The most common victims of human sex trafficking are women and
children. Though you may not see it, it is all around us and it has become a major
human rights issue in the United States and other effected countries. Human
trafficking represents an estimated $31.6 billion of international trade per annum in
2010. Human trafficking is thought to be one of the fastest-growing activities of
trans-national criminal organizations. People are trafficked from all around the
world.
Victims of trafficking can be killed or seriously injured due to the amounts of drugs
injected into them by their abductors. Most women and children are transported
through trucks passing through our cities, and we dont even see it. There is an
estimate that 14,500 to 17,500 people, primarily women and children are being
trafficked to the United States. We believe that possible ways to try and prevent this
conflict could be to have stronger enforced laws on trucks so that they can be often
checked. There are organizations to help past victims of human sex trafficking who
have survived or been found. Such organizations include Polaris Project Organization
that helps on all forms of sex trafficking, and Love146 that raises awareness and
resources to combat child sex trafficking. In 2002, Derek Ellerman and Katherine
Chon founded a non-government organization called Polaris Project to combat
human trafficking. In 2007, Polaris instituted the National Human Trafficking
Resource Center (NHTRC) where callers can report tips and receive information on
human trafficking. Polaris' website and hotline informs the public about where cases
of suspected human trafficking have occurred within the United States. The website
records calls on a map. There are several rehabilitation centers in the US to help
support those who were a victim of trafficking and were traumatized by it. The

Though the problem may not automatically be solved, raising awareness can slowly
help, this makes people more aware of their surroundings and maybe even save a
life. We can do much more. But first we must first better understand the nature of
the crime that we are trying to confront.
