I had many responsibilities while at ESP, however I feel like ESP has given me the

opportunity to be a leader, but not as much as I would have liked or expected before beginning
my internship here. I feel like I am more of leader in every aspect of my life except for when Im
at ESP. Every leadership position Ive had here has been brief, and something I sought out
myself independently. I felt like I offered a capacity to be able to handle higher-level tasks,
opportunities that I wasnt necessarily given that often throughout the semester. In going
through the matrix, I see that I could have done so much more at ESP but did not have the
opportunity. However, I was able to impact change and accomplish a lot of things at ESP.
I have been able to show my interpersonal skills and professional conduct on a daily basis
through building rapport with families, staff and visitors. I have used listening skills by
engaging in active listening, like what I learned during the Camp Twin Lakes Director Training,
and note taking constantly during meetings, office time, and speaking with families. I also
showed interpersonal skills when communicating on ESPs behalf to businesses and services in
the area while setting up my Resource Fair and when ESP sent me to represent them at multiple
fairs before mine. I also advocated for myself and other people earlier in the semester when
there was that conflict about the research studies going on at ESP.
I have been able to show my assessment and evaluation skills through my mid-term and
final evaluations of ESP as well as through my mid-term volunteer evaluation. I also conducted
surveys of ESP families before and after my Resource Fair to learn more about their direct needs
and knowledge gained. I also wrote a research paper for my Disability Studies certificate, so I
reviewed literature for that.
I have shown my writing and materials development skills through creating fliers and
assisting in design work, helping us prepare the United Way Grant, and helping draft some new
volunteer procedures. My materials development skills were even further shown through my
creation of the Resource Brochure and Booklet as part of my project. ESP is excited to have

these professional and sustainable resources available for their continued use.
I have shown my skills in planning and organization through the entire process of
planning, implementing, and coordinating a Resource Fair event for ESP families for my project.
I developed a timeline, check list, contacted businesses, coordinated the event, secured a
location, secured a food donation, coordinated set up and clean up, worked and maintained the
event on my own, and organized families who attended. My event received consistent praise
from families and businesses who attended as well as ESP staff!
I have shown my skills in program development and information application through
helping modify our 360 afterschool programs at the beginning of the semester. We made
personal, professional, and group goals for our 360 programs. I helped to select appropriate
activities and develop curriculum for all our 360 classes. I also applied information learned
during my Camp Twin Lakes Camp Director Training, mid-term evaluation, and final evaluation
to my day-to-day interactions at ESP.
I have shown my presentation skills and teaching methods through representing ESP at
the Disability Resources Expo and Automatic for Autism events held in our community. I have
also assisted in the training and orientation of volunteers. I have led multiple activities over the
semester so far during 360 when a teacher needed help and have assisted in the coordination of
volunteers to complete projects. We are constantly creating hands on learning experiences at
ESP for both our volunteers and participants.
Overall, ESP helped me learn more about specifically working with people with
disabilities in a completely inclusive and adapted way. I not only assisted in the learning during
our daily 360 classes, but also learned new things myself. I got to have a behind the scenes view
of a non-profit, both from a programing side and a business side, something that will be
extremely helpful for my future beyond college.
