What is North Shore CDC Community Engagement Program?
North Shore CDC Community Engagement Program focuses on educating and
involving individuals, organizations, and institutions in Salem through community
events and media campaigns. This program works to make Salem a better community
for all of those invested in its success.

Where is this Community Engagement Program carried out?

The Point neighborhood of Salem, Mass.


Extends from Dodge St. to Salem St.
Includes the waterfront and the Shetland Park Business Park property.
Approx. 195 acres
Distinguished from other neighborhoods by its density, high proportion of
family housing, and high concentration of immigrants.

Who does the Community Engagement Program benefit at the Point?

Approx. 4,100 residents


46.22% of residents are from the Dominican Republic.
30% of residents are under the age of nine, 50% are between 20-50 and 20% are over
50.
35% of households do not list English as a first language.
The median salary of a Point resident household is $40,000 a year.
20% of households fall below federal poverty line.

How does the Community Engagement Program benefit the Point neighborhood
and Salem as a whole?

$790,000 in funds for the Point neighborhood including infrastructure improvements,


including new sidewalks and trash receptacles committed to neighborhood.
Provide free workshops to educate about credit scores, literacy, home buying etc.
Create a positive environment with events such as Youth Get to the Point day,
encouraging the youth of Salem to get involved with their community.
