BACKGROUND and RATIONALE:

The main concept of this lesson is to make sure the student knows the differences and similarities of the
reconstruction plans from different personnel in government.
The critical academic language would be that they need to know who, what, and different topics from each
persons plan.
This will draw on the previous lesson of the amendments and also how Lincoln assassination effected out
nation.

I will build on this lesson in the next week by tying it into why Andrew Johnson got impeached.

I will plan differentiated assessments to make sure they know the differences in the reconstruction plans.

PROCEDURES AND TIMELINE:

Introduction: First I will introduce the lesson by having them recall the amendments we had learned the
previous lesson and what reconstruction means in term of the government. (10 minutes)
Procedures: Provide a sequential (step by step) description of the procedures and activities for the lesson.
First: Kids will get with their partners that they were assigned at the beginning of the school year.
Second: They will get assigned to a laptop that I have brought into the classroom, one laptop per
group.

Third: The worksheet will be given that is the organizer they have to fill out.
Fourth: The children will be given time to fill out the organizer together getting all information
needed.
One site that has great information on the three different ones is

http://www.infoplease.com/encyclopedia/history/reconstruction-johnson-plan.html

Fifth: When they finish they will bring the organizers to me so I can make sure they have the
right information so that they can study for the quiz that will be the following day.
Sixth: When do they will study together quietly in their pair until the others finish.
Closure: I will close by giving one fact from each person and one from the similarity column. We will wrap up
by recalling what reconstruction is and by making sure everyone knows when the quiz will be.

ASSESSMENT EVIDENCE:
The class will have a short quiz the next day that they will be asked about the three plans and
how they are alike. This will test if they retained the information needed to have passed the standard.
MODIFICATIONS:
The students that did not master the subject will be given one day to make corrections and have them done and
explained why they missed it on the quiz.
The children that are ready for more work will be given a word search or puzzle that will start introducing the
next topic I will teach.
