Using a fluted filter paper maximizes its filtering capacity because it increases
the surface area of the filter paper. The small piece of wire is inserted to prevent the
formation of a seal and subsequent pressure build up.
2. Use a fluted filter paper. The receiving flask should be heated. The significance of
the first part is that using fluted filter paper speeds up the filtering process
therefore most of the filtrate is already in the receiving flask before it crystallizes.
The second one helps prevent premature crystallization because the vapors coming
out of it heat up the funnel and the filter paper.
