The author discusses the impact the beauty industry has on females in a global economy.
Brief summary:
Angela McCrackens book researches the global views of beauty and how this impacts young
girls. She focuses on beauty in Guadalajara, Mexico and girls in there quinceneras. She
researches the process of this Mexican tradition many adolescent practice. Angela believes many
beauty norms are changing and the beauty industry is growing. 15 year old girls look for beauty
products and spend hundreds of dollars to look pretty for their quinceneras.

The final analysis is that she believes the whole tradition of having a quinceneras has changes.
Due to the beauty globalization and changes is global norms. The beauty industry has a great
impact on this because it taught girls to focus on looks. Quinceneras were made to have young
girls be introduced as a women and have a church service. Now a days girls just want to have
the best dress and have their make-up and hair done. She believes the tradition has changed
because the beauty industry has taught girls to think differently.
Evaluative statement:
This article helped me provide information of what type of consequences the beauty industry has
on young girls. I have to say after reading this I learned the real tradition of having a
quinceneras. This tradition has definitely changed over time many girls just want the perfect
dress and have their make-up done to look pretty.

Brief summary:
The Article explains the influence the beauty industry and media has on children and young
women. Media its one of the advantages the beauty industry has to show their work. The
information that is contribute by the media can affect how girls see themselves, diet, weight loss,
and even enhance health problems. Since most models young girls look up to are tremendously
skinny.
Analysis:
When many of these young kids dont achieve the body they want many diet and eating disorders
get develop. Research done in the pediatric and adolescent literature has shown that children of
age 5 are concerned of the body they have and wanting to be skinnier. Obsession of body weight
it contributed by the internet where most young kids are now a days. Its difficult to avoid these
advertisements and many kids can get influence by it and develop an eating disorder. Eating
disorders can cause illness and even death.
Evaluative statement:
This was great information that helped me with my question. This article focuses most on the
health aspects and the consequences of it. It was helpful for me because it informed me of a
different type of way the beauty industry influence young girls and even children.

This counselor believes that beauty and media have a great contribution of how girls want to
look like.
Brief summary:
Maya Gordon focused on the aspect of media and how girls get influenced by them. She focused
on just one ethnicity group. She believes media shoes images on women as sexual objects and
bases on appearance.
Analysis:
She researched a group of college girls of the same ethnicity, African American. She showed
multiple types of media. She discovered that many of this girls emphasized the importance of
looks in their lives. Media had a huge impact of how these girls feel about themselves.
Evaluative statement:
I think the beauty industry used media to get there information out. Many teenagers are easily
contribute to the beauty industry because of the social media. This specific research focused on
the sexual objects but I was able to use it as a source because appearance is one of the influence
they receive from media.

According to Waymer and Goldman media has a big impact on the beauty industry. They focused
on a specific show called Ugly Betty.
Brief summary:
Throughout the research this specific television show identifies what ugly is. The beauty industry
is part of this because her job on the show is actually working in the beauty industry. The author
explains how this show is explaining to the audience what the definition of ugly is. Adria
Goldman research is to extend the knowledge of peoples definition of ugly. She believes that
the famous sitcom of Ugly Betty has an effect on girls and that media plays a huge contribution.
Analysis:
The research started by finding 30 college age girls. They started by gathering them together and
creating focus groups. After creating the focus groups they were ready to test them. They were
given a few questions related to what ugliness and beauty is. Then, they were shown a clip from
the television show Ugly Betty and then asked the same questions. The point of the questions was
to research if media and beauty industry have an impact on girls of what ugly is.

Evaluative statement:
I think this research was interesting. It showed a lot of detail especially of the beauty industry on
media. This research helped me understand the many girls are inspired by what they see on
television and social media. This article was helpful on my research topic which was the type of
impact the beauty industry has on young girls.

The contribution cosmetics have on our society.
Brief summary:
Cosmetics have become a necessity to our society. Women who dont wear make-up are seen as
unusual or even not as attractive. The author of this article provide information and examples of
how cosmetics are important to us. Sales of cosmetic have risen and keep rising because its
something so important to us now.

This author analysis of cosmetics being a major factor to womens beauty. Pictures shown to a
group of people proved that girls with full face of make-up attracted the audience more. The girl
was chosen as more attractive than the one without any cosmetics on.
Evaluative statement:
I think this article was very interesting and I learned a lot of information. I think that make-up
does enhance someones beauty but its also sad to realize that society thinks is more attractive
than just natural beauty. I love cosmetics and I dont have a problem with this, its the world we
live in and we have to accept the facts. The beauty industry has contribute a lot to our society and
has changed the way we look at something.
