Web Tools for Learning Project Reflection, Virtual Tour, Memphis Brooks Museum of Art

Instead of going to the museum in person, I created a virtual tour of the Memphis Brooks
Museum of Art for my students. I took pictures and upload them to www.flyinside.com. I created an
account, added music, and published my virtual tour. The tour begins at the entrance at the Memphis
Brooks Museum of Art. In the lobby, students will see a tower and a sign for current exhibitions.
Walking down the hallway, students will see the advertisement for the Civil Right Movement
photography exhibition and the painting entitled, The Sob. The will be able to review Renaissance and
Baroque Art, Greco- Roman works, the Moss Gallery of Modern Art. Turning right from the stair,
students will view St. Michael the Archangel, St. John the Baptist and St. James. Students will view The
Arts of African Collection, Pre-Columbian, Art of Ancient Mediterranean, Brooks Museum Gift Shop,
Restaurant, and Museum hours of operation. I use this virtual tour to teach students about art without
leaving the classroom. The virtual tour can be used with any grade level and learning levels. It
incorporates technology and benefits all grade levels.
Web Tools for Learning Project Reflection, Digital Photo slideshow, Treasure from the Motherland
Instead of going to buy a book about African art, I went to www.mixbook.com and created my
own book with photos I had taken while visiting the book museum. The book begins a picture a door
made by the Dogon people of Mali, the Kanaga mask, Do Hawk Mask, Senufo male and female figurines,
Ethiopian Christian Art, Bwon Helmet Mask,, Nalu Eleck Mask, Nimba Shoulder Mask, Throne Chair,
Snake Head dress, Bamileke mask, Elephant Society Mask, Kente Wrapper, and ends with same door on
the cover.

Web Tools will be integrated into my instruction because it brings to life the artifacts and history that my
students are studying. Students will read and discuss the presented material. I will show them the
virtual or book. I will ask students to write about what they observed while watching the virtual tour. I
can make a class book that contains our favorite poems, projects, and student art. We can order it as a
class memoir or fund raising tool. Web Tools like virtual tours and books teach students how to explore
new concepts and ideas via the Internet. Students have realized their own creative flare and seek to
create their own virtual tours and books in the future. It is cost effective because both of these sites
allow people to create virtual tours and books for free. If you would like to have a hard copy of your
book, there is a fee for the book and shipping.
I plan to support my professional growth by showing my virtual tours and books at teacher professional
development seminars. I can bring my books to faculty meetings to allow other teachers to review my
work. I can use the virtual tours and books as evidence of my growth as a teacher during my teacher
observations and teacher professionalism scores.
