will be along the lines of What would you do in this hard situation.
Introduction: (2 minutes)
Yesterday we talked about Ida Fink and how she wrote about the difficulties faced by
Jews during the Holocaust. Today we are going to read one of her stories and have a
discussion about it.
Activity: (20-30 minutes)
Students will read the story The Tenth Man From the book A Scrap of Time by Ida
Fink. They will then have to answer five discussion questions. The questions were
phrased in a way to get the students to think critically about some problems in the story.
We will have a class discussion once everyone is finished reading and has answered the
questions.

Summary/Closure: After discussing this story what can we take away from it? Why do
you think it is called The Tenth Man? Do you feel as though you could relate to this story
in any way? What does this story make you think about?
Accommodations: Those who need reading assistance will leave the classroom and read
aloud with Mrs. Robinson. They will be asked to answer their questions to the best of
their ability. They will also be encouraged to participate fully in the discussion.
Assessment:
I will be collecting their questions and checking to see everyone made an effort. I will
also check to make sure they completed the questions because we will be discussing the
answers in class.
