MITCHELL MEYER VIEWS ON EDUCATION

IN COLLEGE
Education is important in achieving a comfortable
socio economic lifestyle through the means of a
career
Education is knowledge that is for more than a
diploma and future career
Education should be taught at a manageable rate
I should only have to take classes that pertain to
my career in Computer Science that will benefit me
in a basic level career position, where I will grow
and learn more.
Internships/co-ops are important in any education
Elective courses can be taken if it beneficial.

ACCELERATED PRE-CALCULUS VALUE

I have always found meaning in math, which is
probably why I loved it so much in high school and now
that I am in college. It is logical and has a direct cause
and affect relationship, which is something I value as a
person who likes to have control over outcomes and
situations.
I valued pre-calculus as a class in my schedule
because as a Computer Science major I will be using
math a lot in my future career.
I also value pre-calculus because I have learned
mathematical problem solving that I can take with me
into a career and as an adult in society taking out loans
and paying bills.

COMPUTER SCIENCE: C++

PROGRAMMING
I found meaning in this class the moment I was
enrolled in the course because I knew that everything I
would learn in this class will be the base of everything
yet to come for my future classes in Computer Science.
Since I have taken this course, I have found it
important as a base class to other programming
languages and developing my skills for a possible
future programming career.
I have developed critical problem solving skills that I
can take from programming and apply to my social and
other situations in my life.

HONORS 1010
As a student who wants to be well rounded and developed, I
thought it was beneficial to join BGSUs unique honors program.
I was very excited to take on a critical problem solving class in
hopes that it would improve my skills for other classes.
Although I wanted to be well rounded, this class always stood
under my Math and Computer Science class because this class is
not something that will inherently benefit me when it comes to
my career. I enjoyed the class itself, but it did not stand up in
priority. I personally did not gain any skills that accelerated me
past my peers in classes pertaining to my major.
Since my major is something that is in high need right now, it is
not going to be hard to get a job as well, so getting ahead of my
peers is not a priority either. Learning and achieving the most I
can in my major is what will truly set apart and put me ahead for
the job hunt in my near future.

INTRO TO THEATER AND FILM

I initially enrolled in this class for Honors credit hours in the
honors college. Secondly, I was super excited for this class
because I love film and theater, so I was excited in general to
take this class as an elective for Honors credit hours.
As the semester progressed, this class became overwhelmingly
to much work and took too much of my time away from what
was truly more important, Math and Computer Science. Classes
that actually pertained to my future career. The amount of
effort I put in for the result was not adding up appropriately.
This class lost value to me because it became to much work to
handle with what really mattered. Because of the amount of
work the class involved, I was not able to get the full meaning
from the class that the teacher and I originally intended to
receive.

ONLINE SPANISH
I had no value for Spanish from the start of this class. In
high school, my teacher who had laid the foundation of the
Spanish Language had wasted my time and did not teach
me as much as I would have liked to have learn. By already
feeling defeated with Spanish, taking my last Spanish class
ever in college just made me feel like I had to get through it,
which is what I did. I did the minimal work to get a B on it.
Being from a non Spanish speaking area as well caused me
to feel like I did not need the language as well. I just do not
see value in learning something that I will not use. I am glad
I know what I know about Spanish, but I do not value that
knowledge. If I lost that part of my memory I would not be
upset. I am not going to use it, nor am I good enough at
Spanish to use it, so there was no value in learning it.

OVERALL VALUE
Overall, I found value in classes that pertained to usage in
my day-to-day life that I will use into my future. I will use
Computer Science courses and Math in in my daily life,
well into my career, and as I get older, whereas Honors
1010, Theater and Film, and online Spanish will not be
prominent in my day to day life, nor my future. My
chances of needing those classes as an asset in my day-today life are slim, which is why I do not find value in them.
My present is important to me because it leads to my
future, which is why I do not want to waste my present
doing different things that will not matter now, or later. I
want to learn and comprehend my classes in college that I
will need now and into my future.

I want to develop and learn things that will give me

multiple paths into my future, so that I can manipulate
the outcome as I work towards that future. For
example, I find HONORS 1010 to be an asset now
because it will help set me apart when I look for a job,
which is why I participated in the class. Additionally, I
also need Computer Science and Math skills for my
career itself, so putting my time into those classes will
help prepare me for a job as well after I graduate
college.
My effort in my classes relates to the asset I will
receive in having many ways of working towards my
future. The more ways I have the more control and
