Recognizing Numbers
Pre-K
CD-MA1.4b-Recognizes numerals and uses counting as a
part of play.
Recognizing numerals
Each student will be able to recognize the 4 numerals on
their activity sheet.
At this age children often have trouble recognizing
numerals. The group of students that I am working with
for this lesson are students who are struggling in this
area.
2 mins.
I will start the lesson by explaining that we are going to
do a fun activity. We are going to use stickers to cover
up the numbers on these sheets of paper!
7-9 mins.
The students will be placing stickers on numbers as they
say the number.
Each student will have an activity sheet with four
different numbers on it. They will also each have a sheet
of stickers with four different colors on it. At the bottom
of the sheet will be a legend with the four numbers and a
different colored sticker will be in the square with each
number. On the rest of the paper the same four
numbers will be written multiple times scattered on the
paper. They students will work individually to place the
correct colored sticker onto the correct number.
I will assess this lesson with the completed activity
sheets.

the numbers at the bottom of their paper. I will then

give instructions on how they are to cover up the
numbers on the rest of the paper using the correct color
of sticker. I will guide the students as needed during this
activity.
The learning task will also serve as my independent
practice. The students will be completing the activity
sheets independently with support from me as needed.
I will ask each student to name the four numbers on their
paper to verify that they can recognize them.
Each students activity sheet is based on their individual
need for reinforcement. This was based on an
assessment that I performed 2 days prior to teaching this
lesson. I used the four smallest numbers that the child
could not identify for each student. I will support each
student as needed during the learning task.
I will monitor the students as they complete the learning
task and provide guidance when needed to improve
student learning.
Each activity sheet is differentiated to the needs of that
particular student. My goal in this to close the gaps
between these four students and their more advanced
peers.
Activity sheets and stickers
Students will complete and activity sheet by placing
stickers on the correct numbers.
Recognizing
There is no syntax used in this lesson.
What number is this?
What number comes before/after this number?
Activity sheet
The completed activity sheet will be used to assess this
lesson.
I will assist students in placing the stickers on their
sheets if I see they are struggling with them.

I will feel that this lesson is successful if the students

complete the activity sheets with 90% accuracy.
