Jaguar Land Rover Automotive PLC is a British multinational automotive
company headquartered in Whitley, Coventry, United Kingdom, and a
subsidiary of Indian automaker Tata Motors. Its principal activity is the
design, development, manufacture and sale of vehicles bearing the Jaguar
and Land Rover (including Range Rover) marques. Both marques have
long and complex histories prior to their merger going back to the 1940s,
first coming together in 1968 as part of the ill-fated British Leyland
conglomerate; and later existed independent of each other as subsidiaries
of BMW (in the case of Land Rover), and Ford Motor Company (in the case
of Jaguar); Ford later acquired Land Rover from BMW in 2000 following the
break-up of the former Rover Group; which was effectively the remainder
of British Leyland.

Jaguar Land Rover has been a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Motors
since 2008, when the latter acquired it from Ford.[4] It sold a total of
462,678 vehicles during 2014, comprising 381,108 Land Rover vehicles
and 81,570 Jaguar vehicles.[5]
History[edit]
The Jaguar Cars and Land Rover businesses were first united under a
single entity by Ford Motor Company in 2002.[6] Ford had acquired Jaguar
Cars in 1989 and Land Rover from BMW in 2000.[7][8]

In 2006 Ford purchased the Rover brand name and logos from BMW for
around 6 million. This reunited the Rover and Land Rover brands for the
first time since the Rover group was broken up by BMW in 2000, and also
brought Jaguar into the same stable as Rover/Land Rover more than 15
years after it was spun out from the former British Leyland in 1984.

In 2008, the Jaguar Land Rover company was established when Tata
Motors acquired the Jaguar and Land Rover businesses from Ford.[9]

In March 2011, Jaguar Land Rover announced that it would be hiring an

additional 1,500 staff at its Halewood plant, and signed over 2 billion of
supply contracts with UK-based companies, to enable production of its new
Range Rover Evoque model.[10][11] In September 2011, the company
confirmed that it would be investing 355 million in the construction of a
new engine plant at the i54 business park near Wolverhampton, central
England, to manufacture a family of four-cylinder petrol and diesel
engines.[12][13] In November 2011 Jaguar Land Rover announced that it
would be creating 1,000 new jobs at its Solihull plant, a 25 per cent
increase in the size of the workforce at the site.[14][15]

In March 2012, Jaguar Land Rover announced the creation of 1,000 new
jobs at its Halewood plant, and a shift to 24-hour production at the plant.
[16][17] In the same month, Jaguar Land Rover and the China-based
carmaker Chery agreed to invest an initial US$2.78 billion in a new joint
venture the activities of which will include the manufacture of Jaguar and
Land Rover vehicles and engines, the establishment of a research and
development facility, the creation of a new automobile marque, and sales
of vehicles produced by the company.[18][19] Jaguar Land Rover plans to
create 4,500 manufacturing and engineering jobs in the UK over the next
five years.[20]

In September 2013 Jaguar Land Rover announced an additional 1,700 jobs

and 1.5 billion investment at its facility in Solihull. The money will be
spent on designing systems to allow the chassis of future models to be
made out of aluminium. The first of these models will be a new mid-sized
sports saloon car to be introduced in 2015.[21]

In September 2013 Jaguar Land Rover announced plans to establish a new

research and development center in the UK.[22] The National Automotive
Innovation Campus will be based at the University of Warwick. Jaguar Land
Rover will invest 50 million in the facility with additional funding from
Tata Motors, the University and the UK government.[23]

In January, 2014 the Wall Street Journal reported that Jaguar Land Rover,
sold a record 425,006 vehicles in 2013 as demand for its luxury vehicles
increased in all major markets including in China, North America and
Europe.[24]

Jaguar Land Rover and Chery investing in

Chinese plant
While the European auto market for Jaguar and Land Rover is waning,
Chinese car buyers can't get enough of the British marques. To meet that
demand, Tata Motors, parent company of Jag and Land Rover, is partnering
with Chinese automaker Chery Automobile Co.

The two announced plans to invest $1.75 billion to build a new plant and
create a new, China-focused brand. 2014 is the target for completion of
the factory. Jaguars and Land Rovers built at the facility will be the first
ever produced outside the UK according to the Associated Press. The JV
will be called Chery Jaguar Land Rover Automotive Company Ltd.

The announcement comes less than a month after JLR announced it would
open a design studio in China. It's not clear from the reports whether the
two announcements are part of the same JV or two separate plans.

China requires any company wanting to set up domestic production to

partner with a local business. By doing so, JLR avoids a 25-percent tariff on
imported cars. Chery benefits from a planned research and development
center as well as a chance to "really upgrade its capabilities," according to
Bill Russo of Synergistic Ltd. in Beijing.

Chery Jaguar Land Rover

Chery Jaguar Land Rover (officially Chery Jaguar Land Rover Automotive
Company Ltd.) is an automotive manufacturing company headquartered in
Changshu, China. A 50:50 joint venture between UK-headquartered Jaguar
Land Rover, itself a subsidiary of Tata Motors of India; and Chinese
automaker Chery, it was formed to allow production of Jaguar Cars and
Land Rover vehicles in mainland China. Chery Jaguar Land Rover's first
assembly plant is in Changshu, with production scheduled to commence in
October 2014.

History
Chery and Jaguar Land Rover were first reported to be in discussions about
the possible creation of a Chinese joint venture manufacturing company in
August 2010.[1]
In March 2012, Chery and Jaguar Land Rover announced plans to invest an
initial US$2.78 billion in a new Mainland China-based joint venture to
manufacture Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles and engines, as well as the
establishment of a research and development centre and the creation of a
new automobile marque.[2][3]
The establishment of the joint venture received the formal approval of the
National Development and Reform Commission in November 2012.[4][5]
Construction of Chery Jaguar Land Rover's first assembly plant began in
Changshu in the same month, with a planned completion date of July
2014.[6][7]
Production
The first model produced by the joint venture is scheduled to be the Range
Rover Evoque in October 2014.[8]

Jaguar Land Rover confirms Brazil

car factory plans
Jaguar Land Rover has confirmed plans to build a car plant in Brazil
capable of producing 24,000 vehicles a year.
The UK car company had been in talks about the project with authorities in
Rio de Janeiro for months.
JLR, the luxury car unit of India's Tata, said that it would invest 240m
(750m reais) in the factory, which would begin production in 2016.
JLR, which is also building a plant in China, is targeting the new rich in
emerging economies.
Dr Ralf Speth, chief executive of JLR, said: "Brazil and the surrounding
regions are very important. Customers there have an increasing appetite
for highly capable premium products."

JLR's sales in Brazil for the first ten months of 2013 have increased by
more than 40% to 9,549 vehicles. The company's best-selling models in
the country are the Range Rover Evoque, Freelander and Discovery
Producing cars locally means JLR will avoid Brazil's high import tariffs. Nor
does JLR have to form a partnership with a Brazilian company, as it had to
in China.
As part of its joint venture in China with the Chery Automobile Company,
JLR is building a manufacturing plant at Changshu.
Tata bought Jaguar and Land Rover in 2008 and has won plaudits for the
way it has re-established the two prestige marques.
In September, JLR announced plans to create 1,700 jobs at its plant in
Solihull in the UK as part of a 1.5bn investment to expand its product
range.

Jaguar Land Rover: China approves joint venture

Jaguar Land Rover is to make vehicles in China for the first time after
Beijing approved a 1bn joint venture.
The West Midlands-based luxury carmaker agreed a "milestone" deal with
Chery Automobile and will build a plant near Shanghai, which is due to
open in 2015.
JLR said any cars produced would be in addition to its existing output, and
it had no intention of moving its manufacturing base out of Britain.
Sales of JLR models in China have risen by 80% so far this year.
The company, owned by India's Tata Motors, began talks with Chery
months ago, but had been awaiting approval.
A joint statement released by the Chinese and British companies said: "We
are delighted to have reached this milestone, achieved thanks to the
understanding and foresight of the Chinese authorities and we want to
thank them for recognising the potential of our joint venture in the fastgrowing Chinese market.
"Together, we will now begin working in close collaboration on our
partnership plans to harness the capabilities of our respective companies,
to produce relevant, advanced models for Chinese consumers."

JLR has not said officially which model would be built at the factory,
although the company has said in the past that is likely to be either the
Land Rover Freelander or Evoque.
A research and development facility and engine production plant will also
built as part of the venture, with the main manufacturing plant expected
to be completed during 2014, with production starting the following year.
With China now a crucial market for JLR, building vehicles in the country
means it can avoid import duties.
However, JLR says that being in China will enable it to build vehicles
designed specifically for the Chinese market.

Chery Jaguar Land Rover Changshu plant

fully operational
The first China-made Range Rover Evoque rolled off the production line of
Chery Jaguar Land Rover's plant in Changshu, Jiangsu province, on Oct 21,
signaling the joint venture is ready to begin full business operation. It is
also the first full-scale automobile manufacturing facility of Jaguar Land
Rover outside the UK.
The 10.9 billion ($1.78 billion) yuan plant, a joint venture between Chinese
automaker Chery Automobile and Jaguar Land Rover, is designed to
produce 130,000 vehicles each year.
China has been Jaguar Land Rover's largest market since 2012, accounting
for almost one-fourth of its sales globally, and one in five Range Rover
Evoques has been sold to China since its debut in 2011.
Locally made Evoques will reach the market in early 2015 and the
automaker will make public their prices at that time.
Addressing questions whether the locally produced vehicles are equally
good as those manufactured in the United Kingdom, president of Chery
Jaguar Land Rover Chris Bryant said quality is the joint venture's No 1
objective.
"Chery Jaguar Land Rover remains committed to delivering excellence in
its quest to lead the Chinese premium automotive industry through its
historic British lineage, world-class quality and unique shared value
approach," he said.

As a major milestone for the first Sino-British premium automotive joint

venture, the opening ceremony also signifies the dawn of a new era for
the Chinese premium automotive industry.
Yin Tongyue, president and CEO of Chery Automobile, said, "I strongly
believe that Chery Jaguar Land Rover has a promising future and will
provide premium auto products that exceed every Chinese consumer's
expectations."
Dedicated to becoming a leading enterprise that inspires excellence in the
premium automotive market in China, the joint venture has taken several
steps to ensure it can provide top-of-the-line quality for its customers.
These include establishing an industry leading quality control system, an
advanced R&D Center and a nationwide sales network.
