Translation Piece/Report

More convictions, harsher punishment and an end to police brutality. Recently we

have all heard about the intense situation going on back east. In Baltimore, Maryland
there has been yet another case of police brutality ending in a lost life of a young black
male. This time there will be a price to pay. On April 12 Freddie Gray, a twenty-five year

old black man was arrested for carrying an illegal switchblade. During the transportation
process, Gray fell into a coma and later taken to a trauma center. However, Gray received
spinal cord injury while being taken into custody. He later died due to those injuries that
six police officers inflicted on him. There have been rioting for back-to-back days,
protests to try and make a point and six arrests of the officers that caused this horrific
tragedy. The city of Baltimore has been under curfew for over five days now to regain
control of the city. The rioting and violence had begun to peak and started to over rule
the city. In result, the National Guard had to reset order and put a stop to all of the rioting.
After the arrests were made of those cruel police officers that killed Gray, the city
gathered hand in hand to rally peacefully Saturday morning. Violence is never the correct
way, but it may have been the only way to end this terrible issue that we have going on in
our great nation.
