Springfield College Daily Lesson Plan

Name: Corey Wilcox

Date: 4/2/15

School: Minnechaug Regional HS

Facilities: Main Gymnasium

Time: 82 minutes
Lesson#: 5

Class Size: 40

Unit/Theme: Team games

Grade: 11th

Generic Level: Utilization/Proficiency

Equipment: Watch, Whistle, 20 cones, 3 sets of different color pinnies, 2 goals, 2

basketball hoops, 20 foam gopher balls/indoor soccer balls
Focus of Lesson: Boccer
Student Performance Objectives (SPO):
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

(P) demonstrate the proper techniques and skills used in soccer and
basketball when observed by the teacher at least 6 out of 10 times (SHAPE
S1.H1; MA CF 2.17)
(C) explain the strategies they used during gameplay with 100% accuracy at
the end of the lesson when asked by the teacher (NASPE S2.H1; MA CF 2.17)
(A) demonstrate respectful behavior 100% of the time by following the
safety rules and using proper sportsmanship (NASPE S4.H2; MA CF 2.26)
Check each objective is it specific? Is it achievable? Is it
developmentally appropriate?
Teacher Performance Objectives During the lesson the teacher will:
1. Make sure to enforce the safety rules and foul calls
2. Demonstrate the different types of passes used in the game and each activity
Special Considerations What are the safety concerns? What is unique
about the students in this class?
This is a huge class of 40 students. It is hard to have the students play two game
since I will only have 1/3 of the gymnasium. There are also only two basketball
hoops on my 1/3 of the gym. Therefore two teams will have to sit out. I need to
make sure each team receives the same amount of activity time. I need to make
sure I call fouls and enforce the safety rules.

ORGANIZA
TION

Students will participate in a warmup activity run

by the teachers at Minnechaug. The students
will walk until they hear a whistle which means
jog. Another whistle means to walk again and so
on. Next, after about three times jogging they
will circle up around the teacher who will run the
stretch. Students will be asked to run different
stretches as well.

Introduction- I will introduce myself as Mr. W.

Focus on strategies (get to open space, give and
go pivots, different types of passes). Safety rules
(stay within boundaries, no body contact, watch
out for walls, stay within control, fouls will result
in penalty kick or free throw) stop and go signals
(2 whistles to stop and 1 whistle to go). Boccer
is a combination of soccer and basketball
Rule

Dribble with feet only

No traveling when ball is in hands (no
dribbling with hands)
If ball touches ground players must kick it
up to themselves or a teammate in order
to use hands
Stay outside crease
Goalies use any part of body at anytime

When ball is on the ground it is soccer

When ball is caught in the air it is
basketball without movement

CFU- Can we dribble with our hands? Can we pick

the ball directly off of the ground? Can we shoot
at the net from inside the crease? Are we allowed
to make contact with the other team?
Activity 1- students will find a partner and begin
kicking the ball back and forward with each other
using the inside or inset of the foot. They will
keep moving farther apart when more
comfortable. Also practice kicking the ball up to
their partner or themselves so they can catch it.
Activity 2- with the same partner students will
begin to pass back and forward using the chest
pass, bounce pass, baseball pass, and over the
head pass. Once again they may begin to back
up when comfortable

Transition- students will be broken into four

teams. Four students will be designated to 3
different pinnies or 1 non-pinnies team. The rest
will be assigned to either color or the non-Pinnie
team.
Activity 3- Teams will start to play games. Each
team will hopefully get a chance to play every
other team. There will unfortunately be 2 teams
sitting while 2 are playing but the games will last
only about 5 minutes. Games will start with rock
papers scissors to see who gets the ball to start.
