This year we will be cataloging all our vocabulary word on a Vocabulary Database Folder. This will enable you to
have quick access to all the new terms we learn this year, making it easier to learn and use the m more readily. Below are the
instructions.
Materials Needed:
Manila Folder
Index cards
Pens/Markers
Tape
Scissors
Step 1:
You will need half the number of index cards as you have vocabulary plus one more. For example, if you have 12
vocabulary then you will take six cards plus one more for the column title card-- to make seven total cards. Cut them in half.
Step 2:
Tape the card to the folder with the index card upside down so the margin of the card (large empty space at the top
of the card) at the bottom. The first card should go on the bottom left leaving about half an inch between the spine of the
folder and aligned with the bottom of the folder.
Step 3:
Align the second card with the first line after the margin on the first card and tape it down to the folder. Continue with
the rest of the cards until the column is complete with 12 vocabulary cards and one title card.
Step 4:
Fill in the vocabulary by writing the words on the margin of the cards. Research and write the definitions and parts of
speech on the lined space above the word.
Step 5:
You will need to complete an additional two activities on the top flap above the defintion for each vocabulary word. Choose
two activities from the Think-tac-two on the back of this sheet. Follow the instructions for picking the activities.
A couple of Notes:
1. You may want to tape down all the index cards for one side of the folder all at once (three columns). If you chose to
do this, all you have to do is write the vocabulary down when they are assigned.
2. You may use different activities for different columns, but all the cards in one column should use the same set of
activities (All of Column A uses A2 and B3, then All of Column B uses C3 and B2)
VOCABULARY THINK-TAC-TWO
Directions for choosing your two options: Below is a think-tac-two that will help you to understand the vocabulary words we will
learn over the course of the year. Complete TWO squares from the vocabulary-choice-board below. You must choose a pair of
activities to complete on the blank index card above the definition card. The activities must have either one side or one corner
touching. Neatness counts, if you have to type up the activities and glue it on to the upper flap that is absolutely fine. Remember,
you are creating your own resource to use throughout the whole year, so take time to do a really good job!

Create an analogy to go
with each of the vocabulary
words. Analogies can help
to explain an unfamiliar
concept by making a
comparison to something
that we do understand.
