3.2 Energy Transformations Involving Electrical and Mechanical Energy Electric Motor As we go through the slides complete the handout "Converting Energy" Electromagnets -Early experimenters found that they could make an Electromagnet. -It is a coil of wire wrapped around a metal core that becomes a magnet when current flows through it Electromagnetic Field They also found the electromagnet would move to line up with the magnetic field of a nearby magnet (like how two permanent magnets line up) Electromagnets In a piece of wire, the magnetic field generated does not become particularly strong. If the wire is coiled around an object (such as a nail), the lines of the magnetic field overlap and the overall field becomes much stronger. More coils = Stonger Electromagnet
