Subject: MWA 2- Major Revision

For my major revision, I chose to revise Major Writing Assignment 2. Major Writing
Assignment 2 was a rhetorical analysis of a movie trailer that had not come out yet. I chose to
analyze the movie trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron. For this rhetorical analysis, I focused
mainly on the trailers use of the appeal to ethos, logos, and pathos. Not only did I list examples
of how the trailer used these appeals, but I also explained the effects the trailer wanted them to
have on its audience and how those effects worked. I described all three appeals, however, the
main appeal I described to my audience was the appeal to pathos, as this was the main appeal the
trailer used. The appeal to pathos was also the most effective appeal used in the trailer when
trying to persuade the audience to watch the actual movie. In order to make a major revision on
Major Writing Assignment 2, I decided to turn my written rhetorical analysis into a PowerPoint.
For my PowerPoint revision I used the same organizational pattern that I used in the
original rhetorical analysis. I first gave an introduction to the trailer and a brief description of
how it used ethos, logos, and pathos to appeal to its audience. I also posted a link to the trailer I
analyzed to give my audience the opportunity to see the trailer themselves. I then broke down my
rhetorical analysis into three sections; ethos, logos, and pathos. Within each section I added
slides with specific examples of the corresponding appeal that the trailer used. For both the ethos
and logos sections I had three examples each. For my main appeal I wanted to present to the
audience, pathos, I had a total of five examples.

For the PowerPoint of the rhetorical analysis, I included lots of imagery. The majority of
the pictures were screenshots from the trailer itself. This gives the audience a better
understanding of what I am describing as far as how and when the trailer uses appeals to ethos,
logos, and pathos towards its audience. I also changed my original rhetorical analysis by making
full sentences small point that are fast to read, easy to follow, and still get my point across. More
imagery and less full statements and sentences were important to incorporate in this major
revision because it fits the PowerPoint better.
When making this revision I wanted my audience to get a better understanding of how
the trailer used certain appeals to attract the attention of the audience. I did so by breaking down
the main points of my original rhetorical analysis into smaller points and placing them in a
PowerPoint. I still described how the trailer used the three appeals of ethos, logos, and pathos
and how these appeals effected the audience. For the PowerPoint I used more imagery and less
complex sentences. I was mainly going for the audience to get a better picture of the appeals
within the trailer and how it effects its audience. I believe I was able to accomplish this goal
through the major revision of my rhetorical analysis.
