Tasks 8: Learning Styles

V.A.R.K.

Focus: On the activities

This week you will pay close attention to the different activities your MST uses during the day.

Objective: For student teachers to gain an initial understanding of how learners have a preferred
learning style and the importance of using a variety of teaching methods/activities in the classroom.

Task:
Keep a record of the different activities that the students are involved in during the day.
Think about which learning style the activity is best suited for.

Observation:
Observe one child. Try and determine from the information you know what this childs
learning preference is.
In your observation, please write:
1. What the child seemed to enjoy doing most during the activities.

2. The parts of the activities that the child seemed to enjoy least.
3. What you think this childs learning preference is (justify your answer with the
information you learned in the VARK workshop).

I observed one child and he enjoyed doing most the visual activity during the activities, in the other
hand; the least he enjoyed was aural activity during the activities. In my opinion, childs preferred
learning the kinesthetic, visual and aural activities, because they felt excited and they remember what
did they took from doing this kind of activities, however; children do not prefer the reading and
writing activity, because they felt bored while they doing this kind of activities.

What is your learning style? (from the VARK survey). Please attach your VARK results from the website.
What kinds of activities help you learn best?
What do you do that helps you learn when you are studying?
Why is it important to know your preferred learning style?
Why is it important for a teacher to know about learning styles?

My learning style is multimodal which include the visual, aural, read/write, and kinesthetic. The visual activity helps me
learning best and when I were study, I watched several videos about the lesson to understand more and to remember, also
I spoke the lesson when I study or I listened from other one when they explained for me, it is important for each one to
know their learning styles to continue in this style to understand and learn more. It is important for a teacher to know
about learning styles because she taught the students and each of them has their learning style which is different from the
other, so she had to know it, follow it and to help the students while they learning to understand the lessons. My MST
uses all of the learning styles (V.A.R.K) in her teaching.
