Reflection Questions: Physical Education

After reading the physical education framework, I will need to teach motor skills and
movement patterns, movement concepts, movement strategies, physical fitness to
improve health, knowledge of physical fitness towards improvement of fitness, and
psychological and sociological concepts that apply to the learning and performance of
physical activity. These are the five main standards that are presented in each grade.
Each grade each standard becomes more sophisticated due to students ability to
perform more advance activities.
Both classes and classroom observations have prepared me to effectively teach
Physical Education. PE is different than teaching English or Math. PE requires physical
movement and an open space to perform activities and instruction. Having observed a
class in physical education has taught me approximate time frames in a physical
education. Knowing the different time frames allows me to effectively create a strong
lesson plan. The lesson plan will not only have all the require activities but also
enough time to accomplish all activities.
I feel well prepared under the area of movement concepts. I am able to teach the
difference between offense and defense. I am able to describe ways to create more
space between an offensive player and a defensive player. These are some of the
Grade 4 standards requirements. But, having read the framework closely and highlight
keynotes, it has prepared me to be able to teach effectively physical education in all
areas.
The areas I feel less prepared will be the different locomotor exercise activities and
fitness concepts. It is important to stretch before exercising. As a teacher we must be
able to know effective locomotor exercises to avoid students cramping. Also, not only
must we teach different physical activities, we also have to teach and set fitness
habits for the students. To promote physical activity outside the classroom.
Under Physical Education I plan to share my KIN 425 lesson plan and posters I
designed. As a final exam, we were required to create a lesson plan with a partner and
teach the entire class. Also, the lesson plan required us to create posters with the
rules, and activities. I am sharing all the posters with the names and illustrations of
the activities.
The work samples demonstrate my knowledge and learning in physical education by
expressing my ability to create effective lesson planning accommodating all students
and having enough time to teach lesson plans. Also, the illustrations in my posters
express my ability to create effective illustrations that will have students participating
and minimize confusion. The work samples connect to my learning and personal
experiences in the teaching and learning of physical education by having effective
lesson planning learned from a master teacher and having revised my lesson planning
several to ensure all students are accommodated and able to participate. Taking notes
while observing at the posters the teacher had to ensure all students had no confusion
at what to do at each section. They had no confusion on what they were supposed to
do because first the teacher set an example of the exercise and just in case the
student forgot how the exercise was to be done, the student had a poster illustrating
the physical activity.
