Dear Dr. Bruce,
In this letter I will be addressing every student-learning
outcome (SLO) in the order of the documents presented to show how
Ive mastered them over time. I decided to arrange my articles in this
manner to show my improving writing abilities as time progressed.
Also, I consider myself an improving writer with every document I
create, so I will also be addressing my strengths and weakness as a
writer. The documents I will be presenting are the following: a revised
water blog, my water blog peer reviews, an annotated bibliography
and this cover letter.
The first document I will refer to is my water blog. When I first
heard about this assignment, I never read or wrote many blogs before
so this was an assignment I was looking forward to. This article
satisfies part of SLO one, which is rhetorical focus. Right away I know
this type of writing was an informal assignment as the audience I am
addressing are my peers. Also, I feel that this assignment more than
satisfies SLO four, which is organization. The layout of my water blog
comes from the organization of the picture. For example, I looked at
this photo from top to bottom and thats how this blog is organized
which helped the flow and helped address my message from blog. My
water blog also satisfies part of SLO five, which was language and
design. In my blog I used descriptive language to describe my water
picture as best I could. For example, I talked about the colors in the
photos and analyzed them into what I though this picture was trying
to portray. Also the design was to keep the reader interested but also
convey my perception of what the picture meant to me. I talked about
the message the picture was giving and I talked about in a way to
make it easy and fun for my readers to understand.
The second text I decided to use in my portfolio was my peer
review comments from my peers water blog assignment. For this
assignment I reviewed two of my peers blogs and gave them positive
comments and also gave them ideas to hopefully make their blogs
stronger. Right away this assignment satisfies SLO six as I
collaborated with my peers to not only improve my writing but also
my peers. From all the peer reviews I received from my blog, citation
for my picture was something they all recommended. As far as the
comments I gave my peers, they were all positive comments that not

only let the reader know he did a great job but also gave the reader
ideas of what he or she might want to add to make the paper stronger.
For example I told one of my peers they needed a thesis to give the
blog organization. Proper citations have always been an opportunity
for me, but I completely forgot to cite my picture for this blog. With
the help of my peers, I was able to fix this problem and make it right
which will help me for future uses of pictures in my papers.
The third document I decided to use for my portfolio was my
annotated bibliography, which was created for my water editorial. The
purpose of choosing this article was to satisfy SLO two, which is an
ethical citation. For this assignment I looked at many different articles
but my main goal was to find academic journals for my editorial. Not
only did I find credible sources form credible authorities but I also
was able to find an academic journal that addressed opposing
viewpoints. This was key to help make my editorial stronger. This
shows that not only do I know how to find proper sources to make my
points stronger, but also I realize what opposing or counterarguments
to address.
The final document I am presenting in my portfolio is my cover
letter. My cover letter addresses the second part of SLO one, which is
writing formally. I made this letter as professional and formal as I
could considering my audience, which is you Dr. Bruce Also, I can say
this cover letter also addresses SLO four as I showed organization by
creating this letter in order of my documents. As you read my cover
letter, you can tell that the organization of my thoughts is in the order
of my documents to make sure not to confuse my audience. My cover
letter also addresses SLO three, which is persuasion. The whole point
of this letter is to persuade my audience, Dr. Bruce that I have been
able to master all the SLOs. I gave evidence of how I met the SLOs to
support my claims.
Over time I was able to master all the SLOS. I am a developing
writer that is getting better with each passing assignment. Ethical
citations have always been an opportunity for me, but it is something I
plan to improve with over time. Also, I plan to collaborate more to not
only learn from my peers but also learn how to take someone elses
point of view as a positive outcome. I am a young writer that will keep
making mistakes but at the same time learning from them to make me
stronger over time.
