This is the 2015 May parent newsletter. Inside you will find
important dates and information for the last part of school
year. This is the last edition of three newsletters you will receive
this year.

ELECTIVE CLASSES
Exams will be given on Thursday, May 21st and Friday, May 22nd during regular
class periods.
Open Exam Schedule: Tuesday, May 26th and Wednesday, May 27th
Make-up Exams: Thursday, May 28th (last student day)

CORE CLASSES:
English, Math, Social Studies, Science, AND FOREIGN LANGUAGE
Students only need to report to school during their exam periods.
Students who ride the bus can do so at their regular pick up and departure time. If they ride the bus,
they must remain at school the entire day unless a parent picks them up. These students will be held in
the cafeteria when they dont have exams.

SENIORS EXAM SCHEDULE


Senior exams will be held during regular class periods. Students are expected to be in attendance these two days.
*Friday, May 15th---Periods 1, 2, 3, 4/5 exams
*Monday, May 18th---Periods 5/6, 6/7, 7/8, 9, 10 exams
Student exams are split up into 2 days to avoid over testing in one day.
Some teachers may choose to give their exam over both of these days.

Senior Make Ups---Grades are due!
REQUIRED attendance to Graduation Practice at the Canton Civic Center
from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.

AP Testing Dates
Students who are currently in AP classes will take their exams on the following dates and times:
AP Chemistry---7:45 a.m. on Monday, May 4th
AP Pyschology---Noon on Monday, May 4th
AP Calculus AB---7:45 a.m. on Tuesday, May 5th
AP English Literature and Composition---7:45 a.m. on Wednesday, May 6th
AP US History---7:45 a.m. on Friday, May 8th
AP US Government and Politics---7:45 a.m. on Tuesday, May 12th
AP English Language and Composition---7:45 a.m. on Wednesday, May 13th
Students will enter the testing site through the outside doors by the wrestling room.

Academic Letter
This year a new program to honor our top students was put into place. The program is called the Academic
Letter Program. Students can earn a letter much like an athlete can only the criteria would be academically
driven rather than athletically. In order to qualify, students need to fill out a criteria worksheet for the first
three 9 weeks that is verified by the administration.
The criteria to earn the Academic Letter is as follows:
Earned a 3.5 grade point average or better
Completed at least 10 hours of community service
Had no discipline referrals to the office.
Had no more than 3 excused absences and no unexcused absences
Students who earned this accomplishment will be honored during lunch periods on May 11th. Seniors will be
honored during the Senior Honors Assembly on May 6th at 6:00 p.m.

OGT Remediation & Testing


Students are able to take an additional summer OGT
test after receiving 10 hours of remediation. The
courses will run from 8:00 a.m. until 11:20 a.m. on
June 15th, 16th, and 17th . The test will be administered on Thursday, June 18th from
9:00 AM-11:30 AM.
Students can only register for one subject area.
Remediation will be done using on-line learning
systems that utilize self-paced lessons as well as
small group instruction.

Attendance & Registration


Students must attend all ten hours in order to be
eligible to take the OGT test.
Registration can be returned to LHS main office in
person or by mail with attention to Mrs. DiRocco.
The cost is $30.00.
Registration and course fee must be paid by
May 29th. Make checks payable to Louisville
High School.
No refunds will be offered.
Registration forms can be picked up in the
guidance office.
Test results due in August.

Summer School 2015 & Credit


Courses for Upperclassmen
Students can only register for a class in which they have
already taken and failed. Remediation will be done using
on-line learning systems that utilize self-paced lessons.
The class will be held in the High School library computer
lab room D117.

Attendance & Registration


Only two excused absences allowed. All students will be
removed without refund on the third absence. No students
will be excused for sports, band, choir or cheerleading
camps.
Registration can be returned to LHS main office in
person or by mail with attention to Mrs. DiRocco.
The cost will be $180.00.
Registration and course fee must be paid by May 29th.
Make checks payable to Louisville High School.
No refunds will be offered.
Registration is done on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Registration forms can be picked up in the guidance office.

What is PARCC and AIR Testing?


The state of Ohio has changed the graduation requirements for the class of 2018
(freshmen).
The OGT has been replaced by the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College
and Careers (PARCC) and the American Institutes for Research (AIR).
The students enrolled in the following classes will be tested... English Language Arts I(3
parts) Algebra I/Geometry (2 parts) with PARCC and Physical Science (1 part), American
History (1 part) and American Government (1 part) with AIR.
Students can earn up to 5 points on each core test that they take and will count towards
graduation.
Any student who took a high school course in middle school last year will be granted 3
graduation points (Algebra 1).

Testing dates are as follows:


April 21st and 23rd---English Language Arts
April 28th and 30th---Algebra I and Geometry
May 5th---American History
May 6th---Physical Science
May 7th---American Government

The annual senior party will take place on Friday, May 15th from 6-8 p.m. Seniors will
take part in a slide show presentation, be involved in games and activities as well as a
picnic. Tickets were on sale in April for $1. Many prizes will be given away.

Senior Portraits for class of 2016

Current juniors must have a senior portrait taken by one of two photographers
(Denny Valentine or Rick Black) for the yearbook. The sitting for the portrait is
FREE for all students and will take place on the following dates:
Rick Black: Wednesday, August 12th
Denny Valentine: Thursday, August 13th
Both photographers will be here on those dates from 8:30 a.m. until noon and
12:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. All juniors were given this information to take home.

Summer Newsletter

Please be looking for the Louisville High School Summer Newsletter coming out over the summer. It
has a lot of information about the beginning of the school year along with forms that needed filled out

Graduation Announcement
Like many other schools, Louisville High School is not using a ranking system this year.
At graduation, students will be distinguished by the following criteria:
Summa Cum Laude --- Weighted GPA of 4.00 and above (gold rope)
Magna Cum Laude --- Weighted GPA of 3.75-3.99 (silver rope)
Cum Laude --- Weighted GPA of 3.5-3.74 (blue and white rope)
