Reproduction Essay
There are two types of reproduction that result in the creation of an offspring: sexual and
asexual reproduction. Using what you have learned from the PBS activities and the
Reproductive Strategies Animal Profiles about these two types of reproduction, answer
one
of the following questions in an essay that contains an introductory paragraph, two to
three body paragraphs, and a concluding paragraph.
This assignment may be turned in using Google Classroom or as a
typed
hard copy. All
copies should be accompanied by a blank rubric.
Highlight or circle the prompt you choose to answer.
Prompt 1:
What types of situations or conditions would be most advantageous for an animal that
reproduces sexually? Asexually? Why? Include specific examples of evolutionary pressure
from the environment, predators or diseases that would affect how well sexual and asexual
reproduction would work.
Prompt 2:
Explain the advantages and disadvantages of sexual and asexual reproduction for the
species that practice them. Explain why these two types of reproduction have these
advantages/disadvantages. Use a minimum of three examples of real organisms and their
reproductive mechanisms.
Prompt 3:
Choose one of the two types of reproduction which you think is the best method of
reproduction, and explain why it is the most successful way to reproduce. Support your
argument with at least two examples of organisms that have been successful/unsuccessful
with their type of reproduction. Explain the disadvantages of the method you did not
choose.

If prompted, sign in using your LASID
Once you are logged in you should see a red box. Click on the header Ruby Team
Science.
5. Once you are in the course homepage, you should see three separate assignments. To
work on the essay, click Reproduction Essay, then click on the google doc that has
your name on it. This will open up a google document which you can type your essay on.
6. To submit your finish essay, press the Turn In button on the right hand corner of your
screen, and confirm that you want to turn it in when it asks you to.
7. You may then work on the Reproductive Strategies Comparison Chart Extra Credit
assignment.
