States consumes 20 million barrels of oil out of the 85 million barrels consumed by the entire
world, including the US. That is almost a quarter of the worlds consumed oil per day. Could it be
that the USA cannot produce that much oil per day? Surely that must be the reason for the
importation of other countries oil. Not only that, but if the supply of traditional oil runs out,
people would have to rely on less-developed and dirtier resources, such as shale oil which is
derived from mining as opposed to crude oil which is easily drilled from the earth. Dependence:
How else will America sustain its extensive demand?
People are naturally dependent upon each other. That dependence, however, ceases to
favor those people when their safety and moral values are jeopardized. The United States of
America is reliant on about 55 percent of its daily consumed oil, when it already has plenty of
resources to sustain itself. Independence is not only a human right, but a gift. The USAs
unnecessary dependence on foreign oil contradicts the origins of the countrys foundation, along
with negatively affecting the safety of its population. Does the negative truly outweigh the
positive?
