1. The purpose of the activity is to help students find a solution to a question
using a graphic organizer. Each answer is supported by a set of reasons that will function as evidence for that answer. Any argumentative text or a writing assessment that would require students to support an answer or argument with evidence. 4. This strategy can be used a multitude of ways. As long as students are addressing the question in the middle. First students write the problem in the middle with the various answers connected. Then, as they read, discuss, or plan they will write down the evidence connected to the other side of the answer. Then once they have gathered all the evidence and support. They will write a conclusion. 5. This can be done in a large class discussion while writing them on the board. You could provide just parts of the graphic already filled out and have them just fill out small portions. 6. This activity is great for planning and establishing an authors argument. I also allows for a 3D view of the question so they can see both sides. However, it may not fit all readings.
