Stonewall Tell Parental Involvement Policy 2015-2016

Parental Involvement means the participation of parents in regular, two-way and
meaningful communication involving student academic learning and other school
activities, including ensuring
That parents play an integral role in assisting their childs learning;
That parents are encouraged to be actively involved in their childs education
at school;
That parents are full partners in their childs education and are included, as
appropriate, in decision-making and on advisory committees to assist in the
education of their child;
The carrying out of other activities, such as those described in section 1118
of the ESEA (Elementary and Secondary Education Act).
In order to ensure effective involvement of parents and to support a partnership
among the school involved, parents, and the community to improve student
academic achievement, through the following activities specifically described below:
The faculty and staff of Stonewall Tell Elementary School will provide
assistance to parents of children served by the district or school, as
appropriate, in understanding topics such as the following:
The states academic content standards.
The states student academic achievement standards
The state and local academic assessments including alternate
assessments.
How to monitor their childs progress and
How to work with educators.
Stonewall Tell Faculty members will coordinate and integrate parental involvement
strategies in Part A, with parental involvement strategies under the following
programs:
Soliciting parent volunteer groups to assist in the Title I Program
PTA
School Governance Council
Stonewall Tell Faculty and Staff will take the following actions to ensure that
information related to the school and parent-programs, meetings and other
activities which is sent to the parents of participating children in an
understandable and uniform format, including alternative formats upon
request, and to the extent practicable, in a language the parents can
understand: through the dissemination of information in THE Stonewall Tell
newsletter, School Messenger, and the school website.
Parental Involvement Policy and School-Parent Compact
Stonewall Tell, under Title I, Section 1118 of the Elementary and Secondary
Education Act of 1965 (ESEA) requires that each school receiving Title I, Part A funds,
must develop a written parental involvement policy jointly with and agreed upon by,

Revised 5.7.2015

parents of participating students. The policy must describe how the school will carry out
the parental involvement requirements of Section 1118 (c) (f) of ESEA. The school
may amend an existing policy that covers all parents to comply with the parental
involvement provisions of ESEA.
The Stonewall Tell stakeholder compact outlines required activities required by
parents. The stakeholder compact describes:

The schools responsibility to provide students with high quality curriculum and
instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables
students served under Title I, Part A to meet the states academic achievement
standards.

The ways in which parents will be responsible for supporting their childrens
learning (monitoring attendance, punctuality, completing homework, etc).

The importance of communication between teachers and parents on an ongoing

basis through such activities at a minimum: (1) annual Parent-Teacher
conferences in elementary school, during which the compact is discussed as it
relates to the individual childs achievement; (2) frequent reports to parents on
their childs progress; and (3) reasonable access to staff, opportunities to
volunteer and participate in their childs class and observation of classroom
activities.

Parents are expected to commit to volunteering 10 hours per academic year.

Parent Meetings
The school must hold an annual meeting to inform parents of the requirements of the
parental involvement provisions of ESEA, the schools participation under such
provisions, and the parents right to be involved in the education of their children. The
annual meeting must be held at the convenient time, the school must invite and encourage
the attendance of all parents of participating children. In addition; the school must hold a
flexible number of additional meetings at convenient times (e.g., in the morning, in the
evening) in order to draw as many parents as possible.
Program Planning, Review and Improvement
The school must involve parents, in an organized, ongoing, and timely way in the
planning, review and improvement of programs. Parents should be able to provide
feedback on the school parental involvement policy and the joint development of the
school wide program plan under section 1114(9)(2).
However, if the school already has a process in place for involving parents in the joint
planning and design of the schools programs, the school may use that process so long as
such process includes an adequate representation of parents of participating children.
The School Governance Council meetings will create a forum for development of the
school wide parental involvement plan.

Information and Notice Requirements

The school must provide parents with timely information about the schools Title I, Part
A programs and, if requested, opportunities for regular meetings to make suggestions
about, respond to suggestions about, and/or participate in, the education of their children.
The school must also provide parents with a description and explanation of the schools
curriculum as well as form of academic assessment(s) the school employs to measure
progress and the proficiency levels of students are expected to meet on such
assessment(s).
The school must also notify the parents of any child who has been assigned to a teacher
who is not highly qualified or has been taught for four or more consecutive weeks by a
teacher who is not highly qualified. For the definition of highly qualified, see Section
9101 (23), of the ESEA or NCLB. This requires schools to provide parents with
information on the level of achievement of their child in each of the States academic
assessments.
