Abraham Lincoln essay

Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809 in Kentucky. His childhood
Abraham Lincolns life was rough. His parents are called Thomas Lincoln and
Nancy Lincoln. They were against slavery. They even joined a small
separate group that was against slavery. His mother died when he was nine
years old and the rest of his family moved several times from state to state.
After some time Thomas Lincoln married Sarah bush. Sarah was nice and
really affectionate to Abraham. Although Abraham lacked in formal
education, he was an excellent farmer and carpenter. Since, he did not have
a formal education he taught himself by reading and rereading a small stock
of books.
In 1830 the Lincoln family moved to Macon Co. In a village of new
Salem close to Springfield he began working in a store and managing a mill.
As a young man his sincerity and capability won respect on the roughest
society. Abraham became a surveyor for a time, was a village postmaster,
and he did various odd jobs like rail splitting. All the time he sought to
improve his education and study law.
In 1834, Abraham was elected to the state legislature, in which he
server four successful terms. In those years he achieved prominence as a
Whig. In 1836, he got his license as an attorney. In 1842, he married Mary
Todd. His interest in politics continued, he on a national scene by serving
one term in congress. Lincoln worked hard in the election of the Whig

candidate, but when he was not awarded with the office he decided to retire
from politics and return to practice of law.
The Lincoln-Douglas events occurred. Lincoln was nominated by the
Republican Party to oppose Douglas in the Illinois senatorial race. Lincoln
accepted the nomination and gave a ringing declaration on support of the
union. In the declaration he said that he was not an abolitionist but that
slavery was unfair and evil.
Abraham Lincoln was elected the 16th president of the United States in
November 6, 1860 beating democrat Stephen A. Douglas. He was the first
president from the Republican Party. Abraham issued the emancipation
proclamation which began the process of freeing the slaves. The
emancipation allowed black men to fight in the union. Abraham supported
the thirteenth amendment that ended the slavery in the United States of
America.
Abraham Lincoln was a great person because he freed the slaves of the
south. The act of freeing the slaves was called the emancipation
proclamation. Abraham had a lot of nicknames like the liberator, the
ancient one, honest Abe etc. He was well known everywhere and was a
great president. Abraham was the only president that gave a patent. He
also practiced law without a degree. But he was a greater person because he
wanted women to have a vote on 1836.

In April 14, 1865 Abraham Lincoln attended to a play in fords theatre in


Washington D.C. He was sitting when one of the actors came from the back
of him and shot him on the back of his head. Everyone on the theater was
screaming because they just killed an awesome resident.

well-known actor especially on the south before the civil war.
