Executive Summary:
In our day and age people are told to not think of themselves too highly,
"I'm not pretty, I'm not that amazing, I'm not talented..." we hear these
statements on a daily basis from others. Getting pictures taken is a struggle
because of this, people are unhappy with their photos because they are
unhappy with themselves. They're told not to look at themselves in a positive
light. K & M photography plans on changing that for good. We want to make
people feel like they're attractive and allow them to see the best parts of
themselves. We want to make people feel like they are looking at themselves
for the first time.
We are uniquely different from our competitors not only because of our
general objective to make people feel good about themselves but because of
a few things we will cover in the rest of this plan. Some of those include;

All of the things listed above makes our business stand out from the rest.
We are unique in every aspect of our company.
We are a photography business set on making people see the best parts
of themselves. We plan on making portraits of people, not just taking
pictures of people. The problem with many photographers is just that. They
just take pictures of people. Many photographers are stuffy and don't take
time to get to know their subject. K & M keeps our relationships professional
as well as personal. We get to know our subjects in a professional manner

but also in a way that makes them feel like they are getting to know us as
well. It creates a personal, friendly atmosphere.

Background:
Choosing a photography business was an easy decision between my
partner and I because we both are photographers and both have a deep
passion for it. Our deep passion stems out into our photos and shows
through them. We will go out for an hour to two hour session to take
pictures unique to that person or family and then provide that individual
or group with a disc of about 25 edited photos. The way we will deliver
the highest value of our service and product is by creating a unique
atmosphere and by showing people what they truly look like through our
photos, their true beauty. We make the difference between our
competition because we are young, we are creative, we are up to date,
and we make the focus to be on capturing the best parts of you, the parts
of you that are art. We make our pictures uniquely different but equally as
vibrant and the best representation of you.
Our goal is to make people feel attractive, we want to make them
feel beautiful, and see the best parts of themselves, because many
people are almost trained to belittle themselves and not feel confident.
We want to be that difference; we want people to feel like they are looking
at themselves for the first time. Our focus is on making our work art
rather than just photographs. Compared to "the friend", "the friend's

mom", "your neighbor", "the newly discovered photographer in your


ward", "the old guy your grandma hired" we are much different. We dont
just take pictures. There's a difference between getting a picture taken
and getting a portrait taken. We are making portraits, we are making art.

We have chosen our customer segment to be young families and
seniors out of high school. We have chosen this customer segment
because we have noticed that younger families are more willing to try
new things and we hope to take advantage of their current financial state.
Because we are not established fully we are not charging the amount that
most pro-photographers would. This separates us from our competition
because more people are starting to go towards wanting photography to
be affordable but still nice. We can provide both of these aspects and do it
well.
To focus on customer segments you also have to focus heavily on your
relationships with customers, especially in the type of business we are

creating. This has a lot to relate with the segment we have chosen.
Because we have chosen a younger segment of people we are planning
on using that to our advantage by creating a lasting relationship. If we
take pictures for a young couples wedding, for example and we do well,
those same customers will trust us with their baby pictures, family
pictures, and soon their sons/daughters senior pictures and then their
kids will hire us. We have created a lasting relationship and revenue with
just one group of people.
Direct channels are what we will be using to grow our business. We
will be using our website, social media, and face to face interactions to
build up our business. Our website and social media will relate to our
specific customer segment because this younger generation is more
heavily involved with social media and the internet. Using these channels
will spread the word about our business and allow us to create more
lasting relationships, and with that create a word-of-mouth advertising
system. If someone likes you they are more likely to recommend you to
their friends and their families.
Producing, problem-solving, and networking will all be implemented
in our key-activities. The production of our product will be uniquely
different from our competitors because our photos will be designed
overall differently from that of our competitors. They will be designed in
the way we actually compose the picture as well as the post-processing of

aforementioned picture.. We will show our customers the problem with


just having your picture taken and not a portrait taken. Giving someone a
portrait of themselves is hugely different and unique from just getting
your picture taken and there is a need for it. It is different in the way it is
composed. A picture is just standing in front of a camera and having a
random stranger say say cheese! and then press a button. Theres
nothing special about getting your picture taken. Getting your portrait
taken, on the other hand is far more detailed. It is sitting in front of a
camera and being instructed on how to pose and what makes you look
the best, what brings out your best features. It is being told to not only
smile but to be genuine about your smile. Its the essence of capturing
beauty and your best qualities rather than getting a random picture taken
that may or may not look good. Our customers will understand the many
different problems this solves, for one you get pictures that capture
memories that last a lifetime, another problem it solves is having a
professional portrait for your resume, portfolio and even a profile picture.
Portraits provide a sense of professionalism and confidence and this
solves so many problems. Creating these portraits for people will give
them a chance to network not only for us but with us. They can use their
professionally done portraits to get jobs and refer others to us to get the
same done. Using networking through social media and word of mouth

will be vital for our business because that is what will allow us to work
with the largest volume of people.
Value Propositions
Convenience:
What we strive to do is not only take beautiful portraits of you and
your family, but we strive to make it convenient for you. Whether you are
in Bountiful or Provo, we will be there and ready with all of our equipment
and already scoped out areas ready to be photographed. We come to you
in times of need, and all we need is a 24 hour notice. No week in
advance appointments, no 72 hour cancellation time or fee and of
course no hassling is required when doing business with us.
Customization:
None of the portraits you will receive from K&M Photography will be
typical. They will all be original and different from anything else. We are
constantly doing research to stay up to date on all recent trends and
fashions. Our goal is to enhance your photos and make everyone feel
beautiful, not stereotypical.
Performance:
Our company exceeds any other company in many ways. We are not
out to get your money. We are here to simply take your pictures and do it
very efficiently. We are always seeking new opportunities to make you
experience quicker and easier. K & M Photography maintains our fast and

simple service my updating our technology frequently, and having extra


help when needed to maintain a speedy session.
Newness:
K & M Photography is not the neighbor that is just going to take
your picture. We are here to take your portrait. When receiving a session
from any other photographer or neighbor, you get back a simple picture.
With K&M Photography, you get back a beautiful portrait. Our website
puts us far beyond any other business. Due to its freshness and up to
date material, our company is easy to access and easy to understand.
Technology has
Design:
We will make it a point to design the picture's structure in such a
way that the individual(s) will be the focus and their best qualities will
shine. In post-processing we will make the pictures uniquely edited by
making them vibrant even in black and white. Our design will be uniquely
our own and can be differentiated between our competitors.
Market:
Our market will be generally the same within the next 5 years; we
will be focusing on a younger audience, our target age being early 20's.
This market will generally stay the same for a while because we are
focusing on building quality, lasting relationships between us and our
customers. We will continue in our market by simply offering more

services as we go along, i.e. wedding pictures, family reunions, etc. If this


does not work we will try to make our target audience young couples
instead, focusing more on wedding photography. This will still allow us to
go with our original plan; we will just have a different starting point.

Company Strengths:
In todays day and age companies need to be quick, effective, and
technologically advanced. K &M Photography is using these community
needs to contribute to our strengths.
Strength 1: Our Company exceeds at creating an atmosphere that
feels comfortable and friendly for the consumer; K & M Photography
maintains customer relationships that are fun and personal, we make
customers feel like they are family.
Goal 1: We are planning to keep that comfortable atmosphere by
having toys for the fussier kids and by talking to the customer like
theyre our best friends that we havent seen in a while. We are
planning to buy the toys by March 27, 2015 and we plan to
implement talking to people in that manner for 6 months to see the
results.
Goal 2: We plan to send out personalized thank you cards to all of
our customers. By doing this our customers will realize that we are

their friend and they will choose us for their next photography
session.
Strength 2: K & M Photography is owned by two young
entrepreneurs who are very knowledgeable in technology. We have a
beautiful website that tells customers anything they need to know about
our company. We also have access to high quality equipment and tools to
help us maintain a superb experience with us.
Goal 1: One goal we have to keep up our strengths is to update our
website consistently. Our website extends our comfortable, friendly
atmosphere. We plan on updating our website by April 2, 2015
Goal 2: Our goal is to raise $700,000 to buy a local commercial site
to start up our business. We want to save this money by June 2020.
We will take 75% of our profits and put them in a saving account.
Company Weaknesses:
K & M Photography does have a few things needed to be worked on.
Although our strengths are great and attract a large part of our
consumers we also have a few weaknesses. We plan to make our
weaknesses strengths. We plan to make those strengths by involving
many different aspects and techniques.
Weakness 1: One of our weaknesses is our age. This comes as both
an advantage and a disadvantage. It comes as an advantage because we
are young and we know technology well because weve grown up with it.

The other big disadvantage of being young is that we are looked at as


inexperienced so a lot of potential customers dont come to us and go to
our competitors simply for their age.
Goal 1: We plan on working as individual photographers to not only
earn money to put into this business but to gain that experience
that a lot of people think we dont have as well as build relationships
with others to refer them back to us.
Goal 2: To make our age and lack of experience a strength, we plan
on not only working and building relationships as photographers on
our own but also making it a point to not mention our ages unless it
is of an accomplishment. We plan on keeping this a rule of thumb
until December, 2015 to see how people react to it.
Weakness 2: Since we are young and fresh out of high school, we
cant always afford the best or newest technology. Our finances are
limited due to being so close to graduation and not being in the field for
very long.
Goal 1: One of our goals is to earn enough money by working
outside of this business for a year and spending that money on
newer technology as we go along. The newer technology we plan on
buying will be products like Adobe Photoshop Lightroom and
Photoshop 11.We plan on buying those and including them in our
business by the end of May, 2015. Another product we will be

working towards will be a professional lighting set-up, this will cost


us around $1,500 in total and we plan on buying that set by
December 2015.
Goal 2: The next goal we have is to send out our business cards with
our personalized thank you cards. By doing this our customers can
recommend us to friends and family and bring in more revenue for K
& M.
Summary:
By using customer relationships, social media, newness,
customization, outstanding performance, and overall uniqueness we will
create art and success with many different people from all walks of life.
Through these we will make people feel like they are looking at
themselves for the first time. If you invest in us right now, we will invest in
