Religions

Buddhism, Hinduism, Judaism, Christianity


and Islam

Buddhism
Buddhism was founded in India
Founded by a Hindu man named
Siddhartha who became the Buddha or
enlightened one
Believers follow the 4 Noble truths
Suffering is a part of life
We suffer because we want material
objects
If we accept this we will begin to
not suffer
Follow the eightfold path to
achieve this and achieve Nirvana

Hinduism
The oldest of the major five
religions
Founded in India over 4,000
years ago
Polytheistic religion- believes
in many gods
Hindus live by a rigid caste
system
Hindus move up the caste
system by reincarnation

Judaism
Founded in South West Asia
( present day Israel)
Monotheistic religionbelieves in one God
Abrahamic religion
Believes that there is only one
God and he will send a
messiah to the Jewish people
Smallest of the major Five
religions

Christianity
Founded over 2000 years ago in
South West Asia ( present day
Israel)
Founded by a Jewish man
named Jesus Christ
Monotheistic religion
Jesus Christ is considered to be
the messiah and that he is the
son of God on Earth
He was crucified on a cross for
the salvation of his followers

Islam
Founded in South West Asia
( present day Saudi Arabia)
Founded in 610 A.D. in Mecca, Saudi
Arabia by a man named Muhammed
Muhammed is said to be a prophet
who spoke to Allah (God)
Muslims believe there is only one
true God (Allah)
All Muslims must take a pilgrimage
to Mecca
Muslims must pray towards Mecca,
five times a day
