The importance of attaining and providing a strong education has been instilled in Marva Pittman

since she was a young girl. She comes from a family of educators and has always known that she
wanted to make an impact on the world through children. Ms. Pittman has provided 9 years of
service to North Carolina as a music educator and administrative intern in Guilford County
Schools. She has experience at the elementary, middle and high school level. During her tenure
as a classroom teacher she not only built two choral programs, but also led her students to two
consecutive First Place recognitions in a national competition. Building relationships and a
culturally responsive environment is very important to Ms. Pittman, and served as the catalyst for
her founding of the Patriots Making a Difference Mentoring Program at an elementary school in
Guilford County, that is still active today.

She earned her B.M. in Music Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro as
a North Carolina Teaching Fellow and graduated Cum Laude. She is a North Carolina Principal
Fellow and recently graduated with her Masters in School Administration (2014). Ms. Pittman
will begin working to receive her Ed.S/Ed.D Degree in the Fall of 2015, where she would like to
further study the impact of student assignment and teacher quality placement on overall student
achievement.
Ms. Pittman is active in her neighboring and educational research community where she has
presented at state and national conferences on topics such as culturally responsive educational
strategies, and instructional strategies. Ms. Pittmans family consists of her mother and father
who are both retired educators from Wake County Public Schools System and the state of North
Carolina. She has one sister, who is an attorney in Raleigh. She enjoys traveling, reading,
singing, playing the piano, and Marvel Comic movies!
