Crime and Punishment:

Why is this a form of Punishment?:

What people are thinking:

Moral and legal Issues:

Point
The eighth amendment bans cruel and
unusual punishment

It sends a point to people that they will be

consequences

The Death Penalty punishing people not

only for murder but also for offenses against
the state.
It doesn't leave an impact on people
It makes America look like it can't handle it
problems

The Death Penalty is immoral and people

seek revenge

We don't want America look like it's all about

killing

Most of the people are in there because of

their race

The politics leaders think it will save lives

The Death Penalty is intend to strike fear

not to commit a crime?

Counterpoint
As more and more publicise the death
penalty, homicide rates begin to fall

Kill and be killed, we will not tolerate their

acts of crime by letting them sit with free food
and board for the remainder of their life.

More and more people think the death

penalty is just a part of the past this is
resulting in the assumption that it's becoming
safer and safer to commit crime since the
worst punishment available is often simply
being jailed.

the effects of such opinions limit the

deterrence, perhaps more than the policies
themselves.

As our president has said, policies have

gotten ever stricter in the terms under which
the death penalty is used..

and if such criminals were to escape or get

out on parole they would have the opportunity
to repeat their offenses.
higher rates of imprisonment are resulting in
more crime and overcrowding of prisons

The Death Penalty is used only when

needed, but by taking it away it takes away
even the threat or possibility of that, can you
imagine what would happen if there were
absolutely no fear of prosecution beyond jail?

Some might even say that we dont use it

enough.

The effect of deterrence is a delicate balance

between trying to have the public impact
needed and sentencing the convict fairly
Opinions
I dont think they should mention the race of
the people that were on Death Row
My question is-Why do we kill people to teach
people that killing is wrong?

The Death Penalty is disproportionately

applied to the poor minorities
Its used in too narrow or specific
circumstances

the Death Penalty might actually be more

merciful than spending your life in a cell

no one deserves to have their lives taken

from them, even if they've done wrong if their
willing to change and do what it takes to
atone for what theyve done.
