Math-terpiece Project Overview

For this project, we had to work in a group of four. We got to choose an art piece that we all
liked, and recreate it using linear algebra. The image we chose was split in four, a part for each
person in the group. Below are some of the steps we had to take:
Trace your part of the image, and use lines that would outline each part
Figure out which quadrant you have
Label points with (x,y) coordinates
Calculate 10 equations by hand
Calculate the rest by hand or computer
Insert equations into the computer program Desmos
Color/paint your 1st draft of your picture
Final picture
Take a look to see my progress throughout the project.

For this project, I had Noah, Rachel, and Andres in my group. We started off by
selecting a picture we all liked. We chose this one because the colors were incredible
and it looked like an intriguing piece.

Next, the picture we chose was split in fourths. I received the fourth quadrant,
and proceeded to trace the image.

Next I labeled the points that I had on my traced image.

I then proceeded to label those points with (x,y) coordinates.

I received critique on the steps I had taken, and continued to receive critique on my work
throughout this project.

To help myself out, I created a list of all the lines that connected my
points. This helped me tremendously, and I used it constantly as a reference.

After a lot of hard work, I created the ten equations that corresponded with ten
of my lines and their points.

Next I used Google Spreadsheet to create the rest of the equations, as I had
about 50, and would take too long to do by hand.

After I found all of the equations, I entered all of them into the computer
program Desmos. It transformed all of them into the original picture I had traced.

Once the image in Desmos was printed out, I began to use watercolors
to color it in. After my group completed our pieces, we put them together.

Reflection on Project:
I think that this project was great. I learned a lot about how to find linear equations from
coordinate points. Overlooking the entire project, I realize that it was a lot of hard work for these
short weeks, but that makes me even more proud of the work I have displayed. This project was
very organized, which I liked. It was easy to tell how many points we were getting for each step,
and it was really cool to be choosing certain assignments to gain those points. It was nice to see
those equations that you worked hard to find come to life in Desmos. Once those lines started
connecting, feelings of pride flowed through me. It made all that work seem worth it. This project
was very fun to do, and we all learned so much about linear equations through hands-on activities,
which was great. I think that this project would be great to do in the future, as it helps you develop
skills you really need in math. It was great fun, and itll be great to see other groups final product
as well!
