Project Plan

Background
I am creating seven infographics to compliment an original podcast series that explains how meditation
influences our palate. As listeners visit the Soundcloud podcast page, they will have access to these
infographics before, during, or after listening to the podcast. Additionally, the infographics will be
available on a Google Community page for Meditation and Meals and the main website where all
Meditation and Meals content is housed.

Business Case
Because the podcast series is primarily for auditory education, I see the need for supplemental visuals
that explain the interaction of meditation, food, and how that relates to different chakras within the
body. I believe that infographics allow for maximum graphic space on a document, while allowing the
audience to understand that the document only explains one chakra at a time. Also, infographics
provide quick data points for the audience to instantly grasp concepts and begin using the concept
immediately. With this knowledge, I am able to create a well-rounded educational experience for the
audience through visual and audio mediums, using the infographics as a supplemental visual tool.
Therefore, the audience benefits from a multi-layer educational platform where they are able to choose
how they want to learn the content and integrate that content into their lives.

Scope
Project Definition
I am creating seven infographics with the assistance of Adobe InDesign. Because there is no prior
knowledge of Adobe InDesign, this application will need to be learned and leveraged throughout the
creation process. The infographics will contain data corresponding to a pre-existing podcast on
Soundcloud. I will be connecting the two media platforms together through the use of a Google
Community and an external website. The infographics will also be housed as supplemental content on
Soundcloud to invite listeners to engage in the infographics while listening to the corresponding
podcasts. Throughout the creation of the infographics, I will be referring to several resources. The actual
content of the infographics will be obtained from original content created on the podcast site and an
external website that houses all Meditation and Meals documents. In addition to this original content, I
will also be learning Adobe InDesign by reading Adobe InDesign CC Classroom in a Book by Kelly Kordes
Anton and John Cruise (2014).

Requirements
To create seven infographics using Adobe InDesign, I will need to self-learn Adobe InDesign and apply
those techniques to the infographics using an iterative process as I learn more functions within the
application. I also will design the layout of the infographics utilizing CARP principles, formative
evaluation responses, and images originating from an internet database or designed by myself. As the
project nears completion, I will communicate with stakeholders about what the infographics are, when

they will be released, and how they will help the stakeholders internalize the content. Finally, presenting
the infographics will be done utilizing a few different platforms, while also submitting the project for
final review from INTE5160 peers and instructor.

Constraints
Because the application is unknown, there may be substantial tweaking of the preliminary infographics
to integrate newly learned features and functions of Adobe InDesign. I am considering this process to be
highly iterative, with constant revisions to the initial infographics to apply any new techniques. Knowing
that the process is highly iterative, I consider time to be a large limitation in this project and may need
to consider a date to end the iterative process.
In addition to time, content spacing and image degradation may be limitations as well. When extracting
content from an existing text or podcast, some of the meaning may be lost when applying it to a
graphic-dominant document. I will need to be conscientious of maintaining the original context within
the podcasts when translating it to an infographic. Related to the concern of content spacing within the
infographic, I understand that image degradation may occur if there is too much text or too much
overlapping onto the images in the infographic. I do not want to lose the impact of the images within
the infographic, so the balance between text and graphics will be a primary consideration during the
design process.

Assumptions
1. There will be adequate time to develop the deliverables, obtain formative evaluation responses,
edit the deliverables, and present deliverables by deadline.
2. Learning Adobe InDesign sufficiently to produce deliverables.
3. The infographics will enhance existing materials to encourage practical audience application.
4. Audience will benefit from a visual aid.
5. Infographics will contain CARP principles.
6. Choice to use an infographic is an appropriate complement to existing content.
7. One person is capable of creating seven infographics by deliverable deadline.

Exclusions
This project does not contain any instructions regarding the usage of Adobe InDesign within the
deliverables. Nor does it contain any explanation of how to use Adobe InDesign to create infographics.
The deliverables will not include the activities explained within existing podcasts, such as how to
examine the taste associated with a particular chakra. Lastly, the project will not mention individual or
collective results from meditation and chakra alignment practice.

Milestones

Stakeholders and Communication Plan

Current participants of existing Meditation and Meals podcasts, Google Community, and external
website are all key stakeholders in this project. Future or anticipated participants to these platforms are
also stakeholders, in the sense that any updates to the existing platforms will have a direct impact on
their education. I will communicate via these established platforms to inform my current and future
participants of the impending addition of infographics to the existing content. I will add a disclaimer to
the podcast site, Soundcloud, that new supplemental content will be added by 4/19/15. In alignment
with the podcast site, the external website at Wix will also be updated by the same date. Because the
Google Community is less static, I will update those members every two weeks beginning on 4/19/15
until the release of the infographics on 5/10/15.
