Your learning objectives are clear to see on the board

and its obvious you class enjoys a good discussion on
topics.
Starting the lesson waiting for students to be quiet.
Then reminding students of expectations of cell
phones.
Maybe a management strategy to get the classes
attention more efficiently.
Well informed of the topic and portrayed enthusiasm
with his actions and questions
Asked for prior knowledge on topic to see what they
knew already.
For the first 30 minutes of the lesson you spoke at the
students with them answer questions or telling
opinions. Students are really keen to keep learning and
they are telling each other to ssssshhhhhh.

Preparation and
Introduction to
lesson

Knowledge of
content and
development

Variety of activities
Use of resources

Aimed at
appropriate level

Appropriate for this class level. Could develop deeper

thinking on some of the ideas

Questioning skills

Good questions to develop answers and ideas

although there needs to be deeper critical thinking for
those that are more advanced.

Use of written
material

Clarity of
instructions

When you speak make sure that all are listening. Are
there any consequences for those that yell out or
behave in undesirable ways?

Time allocation

Good discussion and allocation of time to each activity.

Classroom
management

Handling of
discipline

Great PowerPoint was easy to follow for those that

new nothing.

Possibly set up strategies for discussion and

answering questions. Question how many times did
you have to say girls listen. You did have to remind
them around 15 times to be quiet.
3 times students were on the phones while you were
talking. Because there was no consequences for this
you are saying its okay.
Your humour and relaxed manner helps with this
Spoke to students at the front to remind them of
guidelines and expectations at the end of the lesson.
You did tell students off and put things away when you
needed to, however was there any follow up on them
continuing to be rude.

Teacher
movement

You move really well around the class although there

were three girls at the front left that were not engaged.
What are you doing to change this or enhance their
learning?

Use of Voice

Great clear loud voice.

Rapport with
Students

Good humour and relaxed manner with students. You

can tell they feel very comfortable with you and have a
lot of fun in Social Studies.

Ending of lesson

Questioned students on the things they had covered

Classroom manner
Relaxed and supportive tone with the students which makes for a positive learning environment.

Areas of strength

Enthusiasm
Content knowledge
Rapport with students
Teacher movement

Areas for development

Engagement of all students Making sure all students are listening and being constructive
towards the learning objectives.
Classroom management Strategies for dealing with students
You make it really hard for yourself having to talk over or remind them over and over to be
quiet.
Setting BYOD guidelines for the lesson
When there is a student that makes a good point or a good learning episode dont be too
shy to explore that more deeply and look at things more critically. As a constructive
discussion where 1 person talks at a time.
Plenary great questions, how do you know all, some or most learnt this. The loud ones
are heard and the quiet ones just dont speak or interact for the entire lesson.

Achievement of aims
This lesson was well planned and thought out but at times the students were over powering and a
little disrespectful. Some students had to be reminded of the rules a number of times and there
wasnt any obvious consequences for this.
Your achievement of aims was to be aware of the origins of the Furgerson Riots how do you know
this has happened?
How did you check for understanding?

Just thinking could have run this lesson differently sharing the power and enhancing the
engagement of all students/challenging those more academic students.
