When I entered the room Capt Qasim Saeed was having a ship on his table and I Persumed as if he is
gonna ask me about the ROR at first but he started from introduction as to which company I am sailing in
and why still sailing as a 2nd Mate etc. Than the Oral was started in a light mode and he asked a series of
questions asf:

Which books would be found in Form E and I told him IAMSAR VOL III he asked any more I couldnt
answer so he rotated the question from where to tell that Interco is mandatory and I took it as a clue and
answered him from SOLAS Form E and he moved on.

How you conduct an ISM Survey preparation. And I answered him what was in mind re
documentation and Safety Items and all the stuff and in the middle I Presumed that he is thinking about
another question

He asked me what is the difference between Auditor and Surveyor and I told him that one who
conduct physical checks and auditor checks the documentary record he was not happy with answer but
neither had he suggested anything. It was sure a wrong answer, So he told me that he is not gonna ask
me about the what will happen in vessel collided and actions as he presume this stuff I already know and
he is more concerned abouth the paper work now coz being a master is all about Documentation and
paper work

He asked me about the Magnetic Compass when to correct and I told him about all the possibilities
which you fellas also know about.

He asked me in absence of Magnetic Compass Adjustor what method a Master would use to correct
and I told him Tentative Swing he asked the procedure which I Fully explained.

regulation I didnt remember at that time.
11. He has shown me a Vessel engaged in Towing Dracone I told him the answer he said its not
complete so I told him day signal and fog signal than he told me where dracone will carry the diamond I
told him aft extremity but he was not happy and he said this dracone is spherical so I agreed with him
and told him where it can best be seen than there was a discussion of some rules and actions mainly
about rule 7 and 8 part f I ii iii.
12. He shown me a Trawler more than 50 m and asked about which side is it first I took a while and than
I answered him port side he tried to check concept so he asked me arc of visibility of Mast head Light and
I told him for which he agreed.
13. He has shown me a card of trawler with hauling nets and asked abt day signal I told him Flag and
Cones But he asked me the colour of flag and that was the point where I had to say I DONT KNOW he
passed me a smile and came to debriefing told me about some of my mistakes and rectification
In general I observed it a conducive manner Oral he only looked at me gazing when I really make some
mistake and not to confuse me also when I told him something he nodded and added up some of the
points himself just to guide me through And I totally oblige to his comment That I still need more

He called me twice. First time he took 1h45m and second time it was about 50m. I may have
missed/added questions in the feedback as some questions comes in your mind after few days. If
you will be facing him for the first time than my advice is that dont try to prove yourself right on
points in which you are in doubt. Give you answers precisely/shortly and dont add things from your
own, otherwise he will catch you and will go deep in that section. He normally dont appreciates and

try to make you confuse and check your confidence level. He never asks to quote you the rule but if
you want to give reference than use proper words as mentioned in rules. Best of Luck.
