Describe predictable cycle of changes


Changes in sunlight: Day and night
Sunshine makes the seasons
Students will:
Listen to why is there day and night? and gather details
about day and night
See a visual of the relationship between the sun and
earth showing that each day the sun rotates leaving a
shadow creating day and night.
After the short descriptive story and the globe activity,
students will complete a worksheet: Favorite Day and
Night Activities

Ask the students to sit quietly on carpeted area as I read


the story on day and night
Read the story, Why is there day and night? (3 minutes)
-Make sure the students are paying attention to the
pictures and the explanations of how the earth is moving
around the sun, spinning at the same time

Show the students what the story was saying by using


the globe to show earth and a flashlight to show the sun
(2 minutes)
Ask the students what some of their favorite things to do
in the day are and what their favorite things to do at
night are
Students will then work on the worksheet: Favorite Day
and Night Activities (8 minutes)
Ask the students final questions to see what they have
learned:
-Does the sun move?
-If it is daytime here, is it daytime everywhere on earth?
