While it is the first year the Advanced Dipolma in Public Relations has been offered at Marconi Campus, students in the program wasted no time in getting some hands on learning experience. Teaming up with the Cape Breon Partnership, students immediately got to work helping with the organizations annual Investors Summit. Prior to the event, students were asked to write biographies of Impact Award recipients. These two minute speeches required hours of research, writing, critiques and rewrites. The students then moved on to developing an online participant survey, designed to provide immediate feedback to the Partnership. With new research skills, students created surveys to meet industry standards.

If animals could talk, they would be thanking
the students in the Business Administration (BA) program. Students teamed up with the SPCA to develop a new marketing plan for the non-profit association. After establishing the priorities at the shelter, students Haley Swayne and Ashley Sonmor, report their class provided the organization some advice and marketing direction. Ashley continues to research ways to improve the shelter in her marketing concentration this year. Through research, a focus group and surveys, the SPCA continues to benefit with from NSCC student expertise.
PUTTING SKILLS TO THE TEST
If you made a donation to this years Christmas Daddies telethon and saw your name appear on television, send thanks to the NSCC Office Administration (OA) class for donating their talent. Students mastered typing skills during the Document Processing class and put them to the test during the telethon. These skills definitely came in handy when we were entering the donor names for Christmas Daddies, says OA student Brittany MacIntyre. Volunteering in three hour shifts, students ensured names were spelled correctly and entered in real-time requiring both accuracy and speed. Families across the Maritimes will benefit as a result of the volunteer time invested by OA students. The OA program has a long history of supporting local charities.
