Below each question hand written answers are accepted
1. A tank contains 500 kg of a liquid whose specific gravity is 1.5. Determine the volume of liquid in the tank.
[0.333 m3]

2. A certain object weighs 300 N at Earths surface. Determine the mass of the object (in kilograms) and weight
(in Newtons) when located on a planet with acceleration of gravity equal to 1.92 m/s 2. [30.6 Kg and 58.8 N]

3. The temperature and pressure at Mars surface during a Martian spring day were determined to be -50 C and
900 Pa, respectively.
a) Determine the density of Martian atmosphere for these conditions if gas constant for Martian atmosphere
is assumed to be equivalent to that of carbon dioxide.[0.0214 Kg/m3]
b) Compare the answer from part (a) with the density of Earths atmosphere during a spring day when the
temperature is 18C and pressure is 101.4 kPa{abs}.[1.75%]

4. A tyre having a volume of 0.081 m 3 contains air at gauge pressure of 180 kPa and temperature of 21C.
Determine the density of air and weight of the air contained in the tyre. [3.33 Kg/m3 and 2.65 N]

5. A compressed air tank contains 5 kg of air at temperature of 80C. A gauge on the tank reads 300 kPa.
Determine the volume of the tank. [3.96Kg/m3 and 1.26m3]

6. A rigid tank contains air at a pressure of 620 kPa and temperature of 15C. By how much will the pressure
increase as the temperature is increased to 43C. [680.28 Kpa]

7. The density of oxygen contained in the tank is 2.0 kg/m 3 when the temperature is 25C. Determine the gauge
pressure of the gas if the atmospheric pressure is 97 kPa. [58 Kpa]

8. The helium filled blimp shown in the figure is used at various athletic events. Determine the number of
Newtons of helium within it if its volume is 1.926 m3 and temperature and pressure at 27C and 98 kPa,
respectively. [2.966 N]
