Circuit Training Unit Plan

Grade 8 PE
Justine Despins

Rationale:
Fitness, personal training, and circuit training are great opportunities to bring
project based learning and independent study into Physical Education. This
unit also opens up many opportunities to incorporate technology into P.E.
This circuit training unit is designed to be taught in 5 classes each 50
minutes in length.

Learner Goals:
The goal of this unit is to introduce students to the principles of circuit
training and have them create and share a circuit digitally as well as to
understand and explain the benefits of circuit training.

Outcomes:
Physical Education:
A8-3 select, combine and perform specific nonlocomotor skills in a variety of
activities to improve personal performance
A8-4 select, combine and perform nonlocomotor skills using elements of
body and space awareness, effort and relationships, to improve personal
performance
A8-13 select, perform and refine activity-specific skills in a variety of
individual pursuits; e.g. wrestling
B8-2 demonstrate and monitor ways to achieve a personal functional level of
physical fitness
B8-3 explain fitness components and principles of training, and formulate
individual plans for personal physical fitness
D8-4 design and perform warm-up and cool-down activities
D8-5 appraise or judge movement experiences for safety that promotes an
active, healthy lifestyle; e.g., safe use of equipment

Information and Communication Technology:


C.1 - Students will access, use and communicate information from a

Assignment Overview:
In groups of 3 students will create a 10 minute circuit training video.
Students will complete this video during class time using school iPads to
record, edit, and share videos.

The Video should include both a demonstration of the proper form of each
exercise and explanation of the benefits of that exercise.

The circuit must include:


-a minimum of 5 different exercises
-exercises for a minimum of 2 separate muscle groups
-a minimum of 1 piece of small gym equipment
