Event Spotlight: Park Wash

I cant believe its June! I feel like I say this every month but it truly just
felt like spring started and now its summer already. I am so looking
forward to being with the kids in the sun, park playdates and popsicles in
the grass.

The kids and parents had such a great time washing the playground
equipment at Oakmont Park. After washing down everything we were
treated to cookies and juice.

I was able to get a sneak peek at the summer time last month when the
girls and I went to Southern California for nearly two weeks. We spent
time in Mission Viejo visiting family, hanging at the pool and a I was able
to sneak away for a day with my sister at Knotts Berry Farm. We also
spent a week in San Diego at SeaWorld and the beach; the highlight for
sure was renting bikes in Mission Beach and spending the day at Belmont
Park and taking the girls on their first amusement park rides.

Ana has scheduled a few more events like this at various parks over the
summer and I strongly recommend attending if you missed this event!

My family loves these! I usually substitute whole wheat flour for the all
purpose flour called for, and olive oil instead of vegetable oil, but
otherwise keep it the same. They're very filling, and leftovers are great
toasted. Sometimes we still just use pancake mix, but I love this more
nutritious alternative.

Next Member Meeting

Our next member meeting will occur on the second Thursday of Juneat
our usual time & location.

Big Sister Program

We will be bringing back theBig Sister program this year and are looking
for current members who are willing to participate. The Big Sister will be
paired with a new member and help them connect with other moms,
events and activities within MOMS Club of Eugene, OR. Currently the
weekly playgroups do a great job of getting new members
connected,but we thought we'd bring the program back and see if there

Club Highlights from May

Moment On Mom Spotlight: Heather O'Neill

This month's Moment on a Mom Spotlight features Heather O'Neill.
Heather grew up in Plainfield, Illinois, a small farming town 45 minutes
from Chicago. Plainfield is next to the town Joliet, featured in the "Blues
Brothers" movie. She was working in Tampa when she met her husband,
Spencer, who is from Eugene. They moved to Las Vegas and after six
years, her husband wanted to move back to the Northwest. Heather
loved it up here and after applying for jobs all over Washington and
Oregon, Spencer landed a job in his hometown of Eugene.
Before becoming a Mom, Heather was a Zookeeper. She started as an
aquarist at the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago and then moved to Tampa
where she worked at Busch Gardens as a summer zoo camp counselor.
She trained campers on how to be a zookeeper with Great Apes (gorillas,
chimpanzees, and orangutans). She then became a part time education
specialist and Serengeti tour guide, showing guests animals such as
lemurs, giraffes, flamingos and pythons. After that she became a full
time rhino and hippo keeper. When she moved to Las Vegas, Heather
worked with dolphins, tigers, and lions at The Mirage and trained birds
for a magic show.

Heather loves getting to watch her children grow, learn and make

connections and see how she was a part of their learning. She enjoys
watching her daughter Scarlett use her imagination and loves all the
hugs, snuggles and sweet moments. It's fun seeing the similarities and
differences between her daughter and new son Liam. But time is going
too fast!

Member Birthdays and Anniversaries in June:

If she ever gets alone time...ha, ha, she loves to read and wishes she
could read faster so she could read more books! Some of her favorites
are, "The Art of Racing in the Rain," "American Wife," "Life of Pi," the
"Song of Ice and Fire" series and anything by Emily Giffin or Jodi Picoult.
Her other favorite hobbies are crocheting, crafting, binge watching TV
shows on Netflix, and she has started learning photography so she can
stop taking blurry pictures of her kids. She used to play tennis and run,
but hasn't gotten the time since having Liam in December.
She loves "Dirty Dancing," "Grease," "Christmas Vacation," "Billy Madison,"
and "The Wedding Crashers," so much she says she can recite them word
for word!
Heather's favorite thing to do in Eugene is to go to Duck football games,
eat Voodoo Donuts, and drink Ninkasi beer.
No surprise, one of her favorite family activities is going to the Oregon

Zoo. They also love day trips to the coast. Their favorite family trip so
far was to Florida when then visited her former workplace, Busch
Gardens as well as Sea World, Disney World and the beach. They are
already planning their next visit to Florida!
Heather joined MOMS Club about two years ago when she moved to
Eugene. It was difficult to make friends in Las Vegas, so she loves how
quickly she's made connections with members in her playgroup and the
club. She feels so lucky to be a part of the group and loves the
community of friendly and supportive moms.

About our Helping Hands Program?
Part of the support we have in MOMS Club of Eugene is helping each
other during times of upheaval and stress. This is not just limited to
having a baby, things like moving or illness in the family also warranta
need for this program. Our Helping Hands program provides moms with
assistance, usually givingseveral meals in a time of need. However, this
program can provide more than just meals. We can arrange assistance
with childcare, running errands, even a phone tree! We want all of our
members tobenefit from this program in a time of need and we are more
than willing to customize an assistanceschedule that works well for each
situation. Please let us know if a circumstance should arise in your

life and you feel this program would help you! Our Helping Hands
